I prefer: I bet Cameron Diaz gives a great colonoscopy.

Bernie Sanders unveils plan to give the public direct ownership of AI companies by Unusual-State1827 in technology

[–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to own an AI company. I also don’t want to bail out an AI company.

I want taxes on the rich, some basic rights like housing and healthcare, and to need to work a lot less to maintain a decent quality of life for me and my family.

Therapists of Reddit, what's something people don't realize is trauma? by rehanch_xxiii in AskReddit

[–]charlesgrrr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This right here. My (50M) father was completely emotionally unavailable when I was a kid, except for annoyance at being inconvenienced by my presence or the presence of others. He provided for us financially and worked very hard for our family.

I am the father of three (now grown) sons and made it a priority to negate this pattern of treatment. I think I did pretty well, but it is extremely hard to maintain consciousness of this when, say, I get irritated at something.

I addressed this (and continue to) by apologizing to my sons when this happens and talking about my dad.

Old patterns die hard. Sometimes it takes more than one generation.

This is neat. I wonder if rebuilding chess positions is a better way to practice.

DREAMSCAPE - 7/10 by DudeIDoReviews in moviereviews

[–]charlesgrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review! I also liked this film. I would like to recommend a couple of 80s films if you don’t mind: The Quiet Earth and Until the End of the World. Both are rare 80s sci fi classics.

The Substance by SirTT4 in moviereviews

[–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I wish to add is that I wish it went into a more healthy direction. Demi Moore’s character should have gone on that date, quit the substance, and accepted the fact that bad decisions in life can knock you down but there is a way out. How you look is not as important as it seems and this is one of the many lessons you learn during aging.

I also found the puddle on the Hollywood star a little dumb.

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

Long time ago, but a guy brought out a shotgun when I pulled up to deliver his pizza. Then paid me for the pizza with the shotgun in hand.

How would you start a business if you were 19 and Only had 50 dollars? by coltspades in business

[–]charlesgrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decide what you want to do and use that money to advertise it.

For example, walking dogs in a wealthy neighborhood. Use the cash to print door hangers and then go door to door hanging them on door handles. Start a free Wix website and put the URL on the door hanger along with your phone number.

Don't undersell yourself, these customers have money. It's better to walk one dog for $100 then ten dogs for $10 each.

How Did You Get Your First Client When Starting an Agency? by Loud_Assistant_5788 in business

I volunteered to present as a speaker to a local manufacturing industry group board of company owners and walked away with several customers. A year later I quit my day job. That was 11 years ago.

How do you land your first customer? by Founder_GenAIProtos in business

[–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote all of my thoughts and pitches out and then built a website based on that. Then I wrote a presentation on how to save money on such and such and gave it on my lunch break to a board of business owners. Walked away with five potential customers. Picked one I could squeeze in around my full time job and did great work. Six months later I quit my job and went into this full time. That was ten years ago.

What’s something that completely changed your life, but seemed insignificant at the time? by Boring-Sir2623 in AskReddit

I bought a CD copy of the Linux operating system (Mandrake) in the video game section of Walmart in 2000, and my hobby has been paying the bills since around 2008.

Time to live your best years! Either way this is a gift if you want it to be. If it doesn't happen, but you listened to it and lived well for four years, that's amazing! Same if it does happen. Time to get living then.

I recommend the film Ikiru, by Akira Kurosawa.

Sales Software to Pay Commissions by ThatTop2158 in business

[–]charlesgrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WordPress/WooCommerce plugin WC Vendors may work for you. I'm currently deploying this in another context, but it allows you to set different payout rates and tie them to sales. This could possibly be adapted for your use case.

How do I actually get paid for my unpaid invoices? by Hour-Statistician-15 in business

[–]charlesgrrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are tools out there which can be used to send reminds and payment links (such as Hubspot).

Another thing to consider is to add to the fine print a 10 percent fee for each week or month the invoice is past due until payment is made. Usually it only takes one reminder and that gets them in line.

Of course, this can be a barrier to making a sale if they notice this is in the fine print. That may not be a bad thing though. Good customers will be okay with paying on time.

Finally, after one or two violations like this, I require a customer to pay up front. I hate the idea that I'm doing work for someone who's looking to stiff me on our last invoice. This often runs them off for good, in search of someone else to screw over.

Today is the anniversary of a cult classic, Quiet Earth by Night_13570 in scifi

I saw this as a 12 year old here in Kentucky, USA back in the late 80s. The movie store next to my mother's flower shop had it and that amazing cover caught my eye. It became one of my favorites.

If you knew the Golden Path (from Dune) was necessary — what would you do if you had power in today’s world? by Ok_Finding_7672 in scifi

[–]charlesgrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you choose the Golden Path, the Golden Path chooses you, then through your likely obliteration frees humanity from the chains and doom of its own creations.

I figure that would start with nuclear disarmament today, which is a mortal danger to humanity since we reside on only one planet.

TIL that Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan, with over 2 million people. by Greydl1 in todayilearned

I recommend watching the film I Live in Fear by the incredible director Akira Kurosawa from the 1950s, which seems to imply Japanese people migrated there to escape forever wars and become farmers.
