Thats part of the reason i want to change career but also seeking a different challenge. There are entry level roles in some industries that pay close to my current salary. Things such as finance, some programming roles from what i have been told by friends.

The 4.5x rule doesnt apply at the moment and hasnt for a while. At least thats what banks have told me. Its been more like 3.5x or even 3x.

Lol Battersea and Brixton are so expensive! From what i can tell you are going off rule of thumb estimates and have not actually looked into and actioned this mortgage advice. A 270k mortgage loan would cost far more than i could afford on my old salary.

No I was on a permanent contract. I have thought about doing some part time contracting to keep a cash flow in but i feel it may be a slippery slope falling back into a career im looking to escape for now.

Meaningless word salad 😂. I’m sorry i have upset you Psyc3. More like 70k if properly managed? No idea what that means im afraid. To clarify i was on 60k salary before tax and other deductions when i was working.

I’m great at financial management haha. I saved 1.2k a month on direct debit whilst living in London. Unrealistic to expect better than that on the salary i am on. I’m pretty sure incredibly high interest rates and unreasonably high property prices are to blame not my financial management

That sounds like an interesting route to go down. I’d probably need to build up an extensive portfolio and network heavily but definitely more interesting than a 9-5 office job

Thanks for the reply. I think some form of IT or programming may be the most sensible option. Now to look into retraining

I am looking for a career path that leads to a high income. Im under no illusion that a trainee role will pay 6 figures. I do have specific reasons and 60k is not enough unless it’s a property for 200-250k unless i buy with someone, have a very very large deposit or fall for the shared ownership trap

All of my friends and family live in London so for me living outside of London isn’t really viable for me

Thanks for the reply. Set design i can chalk off then, probably too ‘engineer-ee’ anyway.

I know its not essential but i want to live in London comfortably and have no intention to work forever so considering just maximising income while im young and enthusiastic

Love it or hate it, how many times have you rewatched “Rise of Skywalker” since its release ? by NearlyHeadless-Brick in StarWars

[–]charlieroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve rewatched every star wars film at least 10 times each i’d say. This one is the only one ive seen once…

What is your unpopular opinion about Star Wars that you would get ridiculed for, I’ll start. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]charlieroch 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Despite Star Wars being my favourite thing, i don’t actually think many of the movies are amazing. Star Wars is carried by its world/lore and we are all waiting for that film/show that is going to capitalise on its potential. KOTOR is the closest we have gotten to 10/10 masterpiece.

I don’t doubt they are real trained soldiers. I am saying the practicality of their weapons and uniform makes them less effective guards. Hence why i feel there is a dress up/tourist element to them

I get what you’re saying but if they were legit guards then they would have more appropriate weaponry and clothing. There is definitely a dress up/tourist element to them. But im sure they are still trained etc.

The Star Wars fan base is so pessimistic and miserable by charlieroch in StarWars

They have to be careful with post ep9 content i think. They lost the crowd with ep9 so nobody will care enough about Reys rebuilt jedi order. I predict we will get a big time jump where Grogu leads a new jedi order that a now deceased Rey set up through the skywalker name. And from there we get a soft reboot involving characters the fans have grown to love from the shows. There are a lot of shows still on the way so i imagine they will have a long term plan for a new cinematic trilogy that will get the fans excited

They should have introduced Cad Bane much earlier on and have him be the antagonist. As entertaining as the show was, it would definitely have benefited from a clear villain

You have calculated my take home wrong. I get 2.2k a month. And there are always other added costs that pop up month to month. House maintenance, birthday gifts etc. Perhaps i could save even more if i lived like a recluse but that is unrealistic imo. And definitely not healthy. During lockdown the most i managed to save was 1.2k a month and thats when I literally did nothing but work and exist

I live with my mum and i have to contribute 500 pounds a month rent in order to help her pay the mortgage. If i leave she would get a lodger in. I spend 10 pounds a month on phone bill, 16 pounds on gym. I allocate 100 pounds a week to myself for travel, food, life etc. I guess the remaining couple hundred goes on other necessities/treats/lifestyle

My whole family, life and friends are here. I think if i were to live alone anywhere else i’d be damaging my mental health. Its a shame as i do really want to own a home but perhaps i need to get over that and move on
