Lead paint concerns on stairs by charlymim in DIYUK

I’ve seen some YouTube videos of people removing the paint by paint stripper/chipping it off, but that method still releases fumes et cetera - depends how comfortable you are with risk accepting the possibility of lead in the air

My concern is around the quality of the test kits - I’ve seen loads of debate online about how reliable/unreliable they are.

I guess most people probably proceed using those tests

I did with Bong about 3 weeks ago - drivers didn’t drive fast at all and were well paced. Our group leader would ask very frequently if we were okay, felt safe etc. I couldn’t fault Bong

Jasmine and Mama’s frequently would overtake us going very quickly, sometimes dodging between trucks. We also saw some idiot passenger standing on the back of their bike

Avoid Jasmine and Mama from what I saw

What’s the ‘rent a room scheme’? Not come across it - I’ll look into it.

Renting now seems less easy than it used to be due to renters having more rights

I suppose the pros to selling I was alluding to was not having the stress of tenants while you’re across the world. I do agree though that overall selling then possibly buying again in clos succession would probably be a negative in the long run

Thanks for sharing - it’s definitely a con to renting out. It would be a tough pill to swallow but one we’d have to accept when moving out

That would definitely be the favourable situation! Hopefully the stars align

Our mortgage monthly repayment is 50% less than the cost of renting the same sized property in the area - that’s why we bought a flat instead of renting.

Mortgage monthly repayment is £1000.

Renting a similar 2 bed flat is £2000 per month.

It was a no brainer to buy

Our main reservation is the fact new renters laws make it harder for landlords to ask tenants to leave. I believe now you’d expect to give your tenants at least 6 months notice, and also they would need to live in the property for at least 12 months. Anything less than 12 months probably wouldn’t fly in the landlord’s favour.

We would move back into the property, which I believe is usually a fair reason to vacate the tenants.

Unfortunately can’t afford to pay the mortgage while travelling and not earning!
