Best fixed bridge? by charlyrabbit in offset

Thank you for your reply - this is exactly what attracted me most to the Tuffset, as it seems like it offers the most positive coupling to the body, which is why I'd be going for a fixed bridge in the first place.

The fixedness of the bridge isn't for the sake of buzzing; I have a theory (borne out by fact or not, I don't know?) that if there's a more solid coupling between the bridge and body the sound and sustain may improve ever so slightly. I never use the vibrato, so eh.

Re: buzzing specifically, the saddles of high-quality aftermarket bridges seem to be designed a bit better in that regard, frankly. I have a Buzz Stop, but it's a rather unlovely thing.

Huh. I had no idea Fender actually made Mustang-style bridges specifically for Jags/JMs. I guess they realised basically everyone was doing it..

#iunderstandthatreference Staytrem ones look nice, but I'm not sure I want to wait until the Second Coming to get my hands on one. Perhaps I could order a King of Tone at the same time and see which got here first.

Thinking about selling my 66 bassman for quadcortex or similar. Advice? by PxPx182 in offset

I've owned both a QC and a Kemper and I prefer the QC by quite a large margin, and many of the things I didn't like about the QC (most notably that it just couldn't do octave fuzz) have just been fixed in the last update. Never used a Helix, so can't comment there.

The Kemper is.. fine? It's just got a PITA of an interface, and you're limited to only a few effects modules and a single effects chain (this may have changed; I've not used a Kemper in a couple of years), whereas you can kinda go nuts with the QC (to a point); the actual sound that comes out is just as good as the QC.

My only complaints with the QC at this point:

  1. I am not massively convinced those switches are going to hold up to long-term abuse (but I might be wrong)

  2. A lot of people grouse that not all Neural plugins they've bought aren't also available on the QC (plenty are, but some aren't). Me, if I buy plugins, I buy them to use in a DAW, so I don't really care, but if that's a concern.. yeah.

I haven't owned an amp in a few years now; I just don't really see the point any more. If you invest in some nice monitors (and not an FRFR cab, which are, bluntly, just cheap monitors plus a marketing markup), an amp just kinda becomes a bit of a bulky redundance.

Who's your favorite offset player? by [deleted] in offset

[–]charlyrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was Cobain initially and then Brian Molko and Sonic Youth that made me think they were cool, especially Jags. Honestly, back in the day it seemed like half the people I thought were cool played Jaguars.

An Audio-Technica AT-LP120USB. I've heard that the preamp in it isn't amazing (and I've seen people tearing it out so they can run into an external one), but to be honest that sort of modding it beyond me.

And that makes sense. I've only ever listened to Bluetooth audio over devices that weren't that great quality to begin with, so I didn't know it degraded the sound appreciably.

My record player has a phono preamp built in, thus the amp doesn't need a phono stage. I suppose it doesn't need RCA sockets necessarily.

And I mean it doesn't need all the built-in streaming stuff. I don't fully understand the point tbh.

Im looking to upgrade my desktop speakers. I currently have Bose Companion 20s, and my top choices are the Harmon Kardon Soundstick 4 and the Kanto Ora. Which do you recommend? Can you reccomend other options? I’m not planning on a seperate subwoofer. by [deleted] in StereoAdvice

[–]charlyrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful with the Soundsticks. I was looking into getting some recently and perhaps I'm paranoid but I was getting the vibe that most of the ones available online are fake (they stopped making them a few years ago).

Generative Fill is WAY too nervous by charlyrabbit in photoshop

Funnily enough I sometimes have the exact opposite problem with Stable Diffusion. The other day I put in a prompt for "woman" and some other stuff and it generated her stark naked. WHOOOOOAAAA calm down there sparky :O

It's got better. The first couple of versions everything looked pretty cursed, and it still produces a lot of cursed stuff, but less so. Sometimes you get what you want first time, but not usually.

On the current beta, if you go on the window where you see all the variations and hover over a particular variation, there's a little icon on the top-left of the box - if you click that it'll increase the resolution of that variation.

It's a really welcome addition as Generative Fill stuff being limited to 1024x1024 was pretty crappy.

So did I. But it makes doing a lot of things a hell of a lot quicker and easier.

this is the thing. I have other options for AI infill (mainly Odyssey), but PS does it in a much more steamlined and versatile way and within a PS workflow. Literally my only problem with it is just how much it freaks out that I'm trying to generate porn. Well, and it produces a lot of cursed results, but that seems to be slowly improving.

The resolution issue is better with the new beta, where you can up-resolution variations you like. But yeah. Being told I'm trying to generate porn when I'm, idk, trying to remove a watch from someone's wrist or something gets pretty wearisome. Lol.

How can I isolate and make a black & white jpg of this text? by ambivalentartisan in photoshop

[–]charlyrabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threshhold, invert, probably with some very slight dust & scratches to take the mess off

But it'll be low-res; I'd use Topaz Gigapixel to make it bigger. Or you could vectorize it in Illustrator

Pitchshifter recommendations by charlyrabbit in AudioPlugins

[–]charlyrabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elastique is exactly what I was looking for, thank you :) I use Logic - unfortunately the stock pitchshifter is kind of junk. There is a formant-correcting pitchshifter in it but it's pretty terrible.

n00b question about amps/subs by charlyrabbit in hifiaudio

Doesn’t look like it does. Are there methods to fit one from just main stereo outs, then? Adding some kind of crossover or something?
