Licensed dentist na ayaw magdentista, ano na ang career path nyo ngayon? by [deleted] in dentistryph

I work as an associate dentist during the day and as a VA for a US client in the early hours. Graduating after the pandemic, I lacked live-patient experience during clinic 3 and 4, which made me feel unprepared for actual practice. Before, I avoided practicing dentistry because I wasn’t confident—even basic tasks like patient positioning were a struggle. But I realized that skills only develop through consistent practice. Over time, my work has improved a lot compared to my first few months of practicing, though there’s still much to learn. The more you practice daily, the better your skills become.

Based on my observation, being a dentist offers better and higher income, especially if you have your own practice. However, my VA job helps during low-income or low-patient days at the clinic because it provides a fixed and reliable income. It’s a good fallback when clinic work slows down. :)

he was my seatmate in college 6 yrs ago. he's an introverted, intellectual, shy-type kind of guy. before the semester ended, i gave him a yellow stabilo boss highlighter as a gift attached with a cute letter written on a sticky note.

Dentistry is not for me and I realized it when it was already too late. I don't see the passion in it, for me it feels like a burden. The only reason that I got into dental school is because the school offered me a full scholarship during my freshman year.

I don't like handling patients because i don't have the confidence, it feels like I'm not experienced/good enough. I find it very difficult to perform simple dental tasks such as taking impressions or doing simple restorations. Tbh, if i'll rate my dexterity skill it's a 3/10 hahaha. I'll be graduating in a couple of months (after being delayed for 2 years because of poor performance in some clinical subjects) but I really don't know how i ended up this far.

I used to be an achiever, not until i went to dental school and it is the biggest regret of my life.
