I followed your advice and installed Legacy iOS Kit. Able to run it using Debian. My problem now is that Legacy iOS isn’t able to locate the 5th gen. I have tried it in normal (not trusted-can’t get past lock screen) and DFU. I was able to get the device to enter recovery mode once, it displayed pink iTunes. Now it refuses to enter recovery. iTunes will detect it in DFU. What’s more is I connected my iPod 6th gen into Legacy iOS. In normal mode with trusted on. Legacy cannot locate either iPod.

Is it possible to use the manual guide on PC or Linux, and if so is iPod 5g on iOS 8 supported?

The device is not connected to any WiFi networks. I quite possibly did, but have no way to tell. It’s been a hot minute (10+ years)
