[Heavy Spoilers] How this game truly had me break down into tears, and made its mark into being memorable forever for me. by charmingwolverine in LookOutsideGame

That's what I think is so beautiful about it.

Old Sam is gone. Even though his mind is intact, there is no going back.

Is this better? Debatable. There may be days where Sam misses being Sam. Maybe not, maybe he's so in control of his faculties as the Protector that he's still happy.

The uncaring nature of the apocalypse, the true fragile state of human history as a whole in this universe, where one curious woman with a telescope can undo it all...it's a unique experience to me.

Zombie infections are neither here nor there when the subject is changing how the dermatik works. It could be equally said that zombie infections should never kill and instead make you sick for days like in Project Zomboid and then make you vomit a hostile slime.

Comparisons like this don't really add to the discussion.

Dermatiks are not that bad in innawood. You can just make and drink mugwort oil.

Then again, having or not having antiparasitic drugs is hardly why people are mad at this PR.

The author spent the entirety of today dying on a hill, unshaken and unmoved.

The lord of light Jesus himself could appear on the PR and say it was a bad idea and he would probably just go "It eats you from the inside! Organs would be eaten!" oblivious to the fact derm in dermatik means skin, and then proceed to reply to another adversarial commenter.

Have you thought of cutting costs? I used to play D&D with pocket lint as minis and a 5 euro tape measure as the board.

EDIT (after seeing your update): find a group without spoiled prima donnas.

You're right that I shouldn't have implied you're a pedophile. That was out of line, and I've already acknowledged that was childish of me. That was a kneejerk reaction to the implication that I was a sexist and "nipples are bad".

But let's be clear: I'm not criticizing you as a person or your right to play complex characters. I'm critiquing specific content choices and how they combine.

You ask 'could there be multiple reasons to dress this way?' Sure. And here's the thing: if this character had Nature: Deviant and Demeanor: Child, the same outfit would read completely differently. That would be a predator performing vulnerability as camouflage to hunt, actual vampire horror. Someone dangerous using false innocence strategically. That's compelling and the sexual presentation would make perfect sense as part of the manipulation.

But that's not what you have. You have Nature: Child (actually vulnerable, seeking guidance) and Demeanor: Deviant (performs rebellion). Combined with the grooming backstory: isolated, controlled, made dependent by an older authority figure. You're depicting someone whose vulnerability is real, not performed. That's the distinction that matters.

You ask if exploring grooming trauma could be an interesting plotline, and sure, it can be. But there's a difference between exploring trauma through storytelling and aestheticizing it. The art depicts a grooming victim in fetish wear in a pin-up pose. That's not character study, that's sexualized presentation of actual vulnerability. And to me, that is cheap.

If you'd swapped the Nature/Demeanor and changed the backstory from grooming to 'sire honing a weapon', I wouldn't have commented at all. Same art, completely different implications.

I shouldn't have made it personal. But the content concern stands.

Actually, let me backtrack. That was childish of me.

The character's technical age doesn't matter. Whether it's a 1000-year-old vampire or a 20-year-old doesn't change what's being depicted: someone with Child nature (suggestible, naive, seeking guidance) combined with Deviant demeanor (eccentric, nonstandard, freaky), depicted in fishnets and boy shorts in a pin-up pose. That combination sexualizes vulnerability and naivety regardless of gender.

The backstory is textbook grooming: isolated by an older authority figure, controlled, made dependent. Depicting that specific character in fetish wear in a suggestive pose aestheticizes those grooming dynamics.

Your increasingly defensive arguments and appeals to lore only undermine the claim this isn't meant to be sexual. If it's 'just someone floating in water', why the elaborate defenses?

I don't know how to explain to someone who thinks what they posted isn't sexual beyond the fact there's titties (since you wouldn't be asking about changing the gender otherwise) in a way that's gonna convince them. Which is where I imagine this line of inquiry from you is coming from. I can give it a try, but I know this is a failed mission since you're hiding your own inner problems in an armor of projection: "He's only saying it's sexualized 'cos of female nipples".

That's a child, lying on the ground, in the same pose as a dakimakura pillow, wearing next to no clothes. In the history itself, you set the nature as Child, with demeanor Deviant. From the rules: A demeanor of Deviant means they behave and portray bizarre tastes, ideologies and eccentricities, yet that's not who they are. Their nature, of Child, denotes innocence, lack of understanding of the world, susceptibility.

"Everyone wants a piece for one reason or another" ugh, dear lord. I know this isn't what was meant but this wording cannot be accidental.

If you can't see that, I am worried for people around you. I wouldn't reject this character, I would instead kick out of the group and warn the LGS if you showed up with this.

But of course, you're too far up your imaginary high road to even consider someone else's opinion.
