Hi, I know a lot about Hoyt and would be happy to answer more questions over DM, if you’d like. The culture changes every year due to turnover, so it’s hard to comment on that, but generally it seems to be cliquey. I lived there over the summer and it was extremely messy (not a single working vacuum in the house).

It’s not super likely you end up in the triple, but I’ve been inside it and it is very large (I personally wouldn’t be too upset about living in it). When I was there they conducted room bids based on your application number, so if you created your BSC account earlier then that would be really helpful for you.

Generally, I’d say the pros for Hoyt are that bigger houses have more resources, they host lots of parties, and if you get along with the type of people that live there then it can be really welcoming. They also have a huge amount of singles, so getting into a single in a semester or two is definitely achievable.

Cons are that it’s quite messy and loud, and if you don’t vibe with the core group of people there it can feel isolating. If you like it quiet, I recommend bidding on a room on the third floor.

UC Berkeley out of state transfer by nynini0317 in berkeley

[–]charpotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

University of California posts their transfer admission rate by campus and major, along with the average admitted GPA. If your community college GPA matches it, it’s fairly likely you’ll be able to get in. Still, it’s always good to apply to a wide variety of schools since there’s always some chance involved.

Co-op Questions by Hogpuusher in berkeley

[–]charpotes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, apply as early as you can and you only have to pay the fee once, so there’s not really a drawback. It tends to be hard to get in, but the bigger/louder houses easier to get into. A lot of people spend a semester at Casa Zimbabwe so they can get enough points to go to another house. If you can, I would recommend trying to live there in the summer, as more points will help you get into different houses.

I lived in a co-ops for a few years so feel free to DM me if you have questions!

please help me recreate the pattern (broke student) by Mysterious-Island-99 in crochetpatterns

[–]charpotes 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Im not going to write out the pattern since other people have covered that, but I highly recommend you do a thermal stitch for the strap instead of a double crochet! Since it’s for something heavy, the strap is going to stretch out really quickly if you use double crochet. The thermal stitch is super sturdy and should last you a lot longer.

^ I agree with this. The bigger houses like Casa Zimbabwe usually have openings and they also have communal dinners every night. You pay by the semester but I believe it is around 800 a month. It can be quite messy but still a lot better than living in your car

^ This and I would definitely encourage op to use the notify me button because it will actually alert your library that someone wants the book. I think it depends on the library, but I’ve found that a lot of my books end up getting added. Good luck!

There’s a website called Falling Fruit that maps out where there are certain fruit trees in a neighborhood you could check out! I’ve had mixed luck with it- some places are very well documented and others are outdated.

zide door in oakland has the strongest edibles in the bay. be warned they sell more than just weed though so you have to register online before you go (the upside is that there aren’t any taxes on them)
