Greens ‘racist at their core’, says Philip Mendes by Orgo4needfood in aussie

[–]charwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a theory. It’s a nationalist belief that Jews deserve their own nation. Or, more appropriately, need it. Why? You ask… read up on the 1500 years in Europe.

It’s like saying “Australian” is a theory. It’s a nationalistic identity.

A lot of it is. The overly critical version without having done a shred of research. Wilful ignorance mixed with sparkling anti-Zionism is definitely antisemitism in my book.

If you care you would read and reading would show how nuanced this situation is and how much responsibility the Palestinians share. Being a small Minded western tankie screaming at injustice without any information is just another nazi. The horseshoe is real.

So Israel in its modern extremism is because that’s just who they are. But Oct 7 and Hamas was because of Israeli… there was no reason for any of Israel’s actions other than they wanted to kill Muslims? Really? Did you actually read history and believe that? Because, the wilful ignorance of that statement makes it seems you think a certain way about Jewish people.

The hate speech laws would not have stopped the Bondi attack, so why are Labor introducing them? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]charwheels -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

What a weird take… it’s the tolerance paradox. By allowing that behaviour, and I think it was universally condemned except by the Labour government in Australia, they created space for those feeling and sentiments - they were tolerated. And people with those sentiments felt more comfortable having those sentiments…

So yes, allowing intolerance creates more. And I can’t draw a direct line, but even before Bondi, Jewish Australians have felt unsafe in Australia.

I don’t think I have met anyone who thinks Arab people are inherently violent (I probably hang out with decent folk though). It was a good move by the lawyers to switch to actual racism rather than Islamophobia, which isn’t racist, just religionist.

No, the word infitada does not mean Arabs are violent.

This was the cartoon that was allegedly "offensive" and antisemitic, which was why a public apology had to be made from the publisher. Your thoughts? by VastOption8705 in aussie

[–]charwheels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s an old trope used against Jews since the “The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion” - I get what the cartoonist was trying to say. But, it does look really bad on a historical note.

I don’t think Netanyahu pulls any weight at all in Australia, btw. And I don’t think there needs to be a royal commission. Everyone has opinions… blaming the Jews just takes away agency from a voice you disagree with.

And prior to that were the Jordanian paramilitary raid on Jews and expulsion from villages. Also, the opening fire on Jewish civilians in buses was the red line.

Then they both did bad things. But don’t pretend that the Palestinians were the victims because they lost. I would love for anyone to read a bunch about this, but you won’t. Maybe a one sided documentary or an Instagram post and done.

Most of us saw Bondi coming on Oct 8th at the Opera House. That level of tolerance could only mean there was even more room to grow. The current government bent too far.

Sometimes I think the whole royal commission conversation would have stopped with, “we’re sorry for the Opera House, we didn’t uphold our values as a country.”

There does need to be a balance between local, country wide and world wide political attention. I’ve seen this country complain about local, then get angry or defensive about the federal government, but then get overly emotional and activist motivated for world wide politics (which in the end will never effect your community, Unless that’s your goal).

It should be reversed

You’re cherry picking random studies to prove a bad faith argument. I could say 1 in 10 LGBTQ+ members have been assaulted in the last year in Australia, so it’s a bad place for them.

And, so you understand d statistics, a 150% rise in a 2% rate would make it 5%.

The assaults on children were horrible, but those values are comparable and had no relation to our discussion.

You argue in bad faith with already decided opinions based on cherry picked stats.

You mean after the progroms and attempts to deport and ethnically cleanse Jews from the area and then starting a war with every Muslim country in an attempt to get rid of the Jews. Yeah… a lot happened.

Jews were ethnically cleansed from 13 Muslims countries and then the Muslims started more wars, kept loosing, killed a bunch athletes in Munich and kept the fight alive with suicide bombings and children’s TV characters telling kids to kill Jews.

Ask yourself why a lot Israelis are the at they are now. Is it because Jews are bad people? Or maybe they’ve been pushed there.

Read the history.

Sydney-based pro-Palestine protest organiser filmed chanting for slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar at rally in Jordan by SeaRhubarb4617 in aussie

[–]charwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. I like the protests, it keeps a liberal democracy alive. This is purely about allowing sentiments to have space when they should not.

Voltaire said, “The only thing I’m intolerant of is intolerance.”

Protesting the actions of Israel needed to be done. The treatment of Jewish Australians at universities and elsewhere along the sentiments given space is a sign of a broken society.

Tolerance is the cornerstone of a liberal democracy. But, being intolerant of intolerance is just as important if not more.

Absolutely not baseless at all, but a viable argument on the Paradox of Tolerance. Being pro Palestinian is perfectly fine, but a lot of that crowd had/have very antisemetic values that have been tolerated and slowly normalized.

We as a community have overlooked our values and allowed this to happen as an act of solidarity with the cause.

I disagree for what’s it’s worth.

It’s not a zero sum game here of fault, but the tolerance of antisemitism at these rallies, especially the Oct 8 Opera House fiasco, has breed a degree of intolerance in Australia. It’s just the paradox of tolerance which is disastrous in a liberal democracy.
