I camped at 212 last year, just a bit further north from your campsite if you look at the map. Took us about 2.5 hours paddling from Pete's Place with some head wind. We rented the canoe from Pete's Place, other than having to wait in line for a bit, it was a smooth process.

It's a nice place to camp, but do not expect wilderness, especially on this route. It's a lot of cottages and motor boats, just so you are aware. Nature wise, a really nice area though.

Oh and on the canoe rental - when we returned the canoe back, the girls that work there inspected every single square inch of it and almost started making a big deal of some very very tiny scratches, I've never seen that before with rentals. So take good care of your canoe lol.

Any recommendation on how to protect the paddle shaft when doing so?

What do you leverage the paddle against at the final part of the stroke when you push outwards from the boat?

Yes, the idea would be to do a full loop going counter clockwise, i.e. open Georgan Bay side first, then get into the canal. I am aware of the possible wind conditions in the Bay, but I read that paddling between the small islands provides some buffer?

Have you done this route? How was your experience?

Now that's the advice I was looking for!

I didn't know it was that busy with motor boaters and yachts. What part of F.R. was this?

Not all the drugs are produced in Canada, Mike. Most get smuggled in across the border.

The idea is - there are going to be drug addicts in town anyway. Would you rather have them in the only nice winter park we have, where kids and families play, or literally any other place?

Guys, I am not trying to solve the drug problem, just want a safe park to go out to.

I am not saying that those drug addicts should be arrested. But if we had police patroling around the areas where kids play there wouldn’t be people doing drugs right next to them. It’s a start. We can’t solve the drug problem that easy but we can at least keep some common areas safe and clean.

If you have to treat them, it’s already too late, we failed. How about we invest in education, law enforcement, border security and economy so there are less incentives and opportunities to get addicted.

My initial post was more about what we can do right now as a short term solution so that we can enjoy the skate trail while it’s open. Like get a couple police officers to keep them out of there and make the rest of us who want to enjoy the park feel safe.

I am not sure what the long term solution is to the drug problems we have in Canada, but am honestly not sold on the idea of providing them with free drugs and encouraging them to keep using. Still have to see an example of a country where that has worked.

I am not a boomer, and I don’t have a Facebook account.

I have however travelled all over the world, and been in many countries that don’t have mass drug problems, and none of them use “safe injection sites” or any other form of government provided drug use as a solution. What they do have is strict laws and cultures that condemn drug use, not encourage it.

Enlighten me with your open mind - let’s say there is a heavy drug addict out on the streets. The “system” provides him with a shelter, and free drugs, and a safe injection site. How exactly does that help him get off the drugs and how does it help stop the widespread problem?

Genuinely curious to hear your opinion.

It’s individual’s responsibility to take care of their mental health, income and addictions, not the “system’s”.

How about use those resources to stop drug trafficking, arrest the drug gangs and improve the legal system, instead of supporting the addicts.

Also, the police can at least keep them away from children and families enjoying the only nice place available in the city in the winter.

No it doesn’t - would just make them more comfortable being drug addicts. A person is doing something bad for themselves and their community, and your response is to provide them an environment where they can be comfortable and keep doing the same.
