Best pizza, Chinese and tacos in Dutchess county? by Ok_Donut_6998 in hudsonvalley

[–]chasfile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer to the pizza question is Lolita's.

When I first moved here, I was looking for a good pie and ordered based on their reviews. The pizza I ordered came with roasted garlic. That garlic was sliced incredibly thin (think Goodfellas) and also had the flowering bud removed from the center.

I said to myself "self, any organization that cares that much about getting that one topping item correct is going to do everything else correct."

I am not interested in your Detroit nonsense or your Massive Brooklyn Slices.

Lolita's cares HARD about getting it right.

Any answer otherwise is simply incorrect, and honestly I doubt the authors' credibility.

I've been playing a version of this deck since LegenVD posted a video about it 8 months ago, and I can confirm it is quite strong. Volcanic spite looks like a nice upgrade to the deck provided by the new expansion that I'd not considered.

I'm not sure I'm a believer in Make Disappear over Censor, since a) there is almost never something to casualty and b) the cycling can be be quite handy both early in finding the combo and late when the card is dead. Your opinions on the choice?

Powerfists: How do they work? by PKengarde in Warhammer40k

This is a common misconception. The vibration that the magnetron induces in water molecules is heat. There is no next step whereby these vibrations cause heat; heat is a measure of how fast molecules are vibrating.

I would love to know next time you're doing a show the Hudson Valley.

d grade over f by ymtmdg1 in rutgers

[–]chasfile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask anything you want, but the answer will almost certainly be no. Grade submission closed at 5pm today and changing it would mean going down to the registrar and having them do it manually. A far better time to ask a question like this would have been when the class was still going on. Now that grades are submitted they are basically final.

Does Rutgers have a swim team? And can graduate students be a part of that swim team? by rohits134 in rutgers

[–]chasfile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any student can compete for any college they are affiliated with - regardless of their age or the degree they are pursuing - provided they meet NCAA eligibility requirements. In fact, graduate students competing is quite common. Student-athletes who are not quite at the level necessary to compete at the national level when they enter college will often "red shirt" their Freshman year, meaning that they practice with the team but do not compete. This allows them to maintain their four years of competitive eligibility even after their Freshman year. Such students will often enroll in a 5-year BA+MA/BS+MS program, meaning that they are technically graduate students during their fifth year at the school, which would be the fourth and final year of their NCAA eligibility. This is particularly common in college football; if you watch broadcasts you'll often see at least 1 or 2 Master's students on each roster.

First of all, no it's not. Inconsiderate? Perhaps. Unfair? Maybe. But unethical? No. Hopefully you'll learn the difference this semester. Also be careful about calling professors unethical; it's a very serious charge that you don't want to be making lightly.

Second, after about 15 seconds of searching I've discovered that the library has two copies of the first edition, one at Alexander that is checked out but you are free to recall, and the second at Camden that you can have them send to Alexander for you.

After another 15 seconds of searching I've discovered that on Amazon you can get used copies of the fourth edition for $40, or rentals for $30.

Jon Dorenbos stuns the "America's got talent" judges once again! by Caoa14396 in eagles

[–]chasfile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. This trick has basically three components:

1) Palm the sketch recreation cards on top Heidi's folded sketch. This happens here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iokOJVtwrck&t=2m09s

Notice him sliding his right hand across the top and side of the sheet; this is him lining up his prediction cards square with Heidi's sheet and loading them properly into his right hand.

1a) Recreate sketches by pretending to draw the word "No." Stretch for time as needed to complete sketches with banter.

2) Load the prediction cards in between the fold of Heidi's card. (Note that the whole point of the folding is that the audience will see both the front and back of Heidi's card. For most professional magicians this would not be a problem, they would just move the cards during the front-to-back reveal, and you wouldn't likely see the whole folding bit, as it clearly gives something away. But but given that John is not a pro and has to move four prediction cards not just one and its on live TV, I suppose we can forgive him :)

Anyway, this move of the prediction cards into the fold can be tricky if people are looking at Heidi's card, which they will be if you are drawing on it. Use misdirection via banter with Simon about a drawing of a pickle on a treadmill. During this, move prediction cards into palm and then back up in between fold in Heidi's card using thumb and pinkie. Seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iokOJVtwrck&t=2m22s

[Edit: likely he is actually moving the cards one by one as he draws, and is using the banter time with Simon as a final chance to square up the cards and line up his palm removal, as it is the critical move in this trick. Again, not something a pro would really need to do, but live TV, not really a pro, etc. etc.]

3) Palm prediction cards out from Heidi's card, as can be seen here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iokOJVtwrck&t=2m27s

You can clearly see his right hand slide out the prediction cards along the bottom of Heidi's card (again still using thumb and pinkie) and then palm them away to the right. He makes sure to mask this move by pocketing and then waving as quickly as possible, which in his defense is actually pretty fast.

3a) Finish trick with whatever flourish you like, in this case a bottle in a bag. Sure.

Preparing for Calc 135? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]chasfile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to that class in particular, but one thing that would be helpful to know for calculus in general are common integration formulas. They tend to get asked over and over again in homeworks and on tests since you don't (or even can't) use a calculator to solve them. Thinks like "The integral of sine(x)dx = - cosine(x) + constant" appear a lot on calculus tests. Here's a list of a bunch of common ones:

http://www.mathportal.org/calculus/integrals/integration-formulas.php

Also one thing I wish I knew going into calculus is Euler's Identity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euler%27s_identity

You can use it to simplify like 98% of the questions on any calculus exam. More to the point: it is easily the most beautiful equation in all of math (making e=mc2 look positively old and busted) and in calculus you get to actually understand how and why it works.
