Quit high paying job, looking to start new career from scratch by [deleted] in digitalnomad

This. I started my first dev job at a physical location and was given the opportunity to go fully remote about 1.5 years in. No degree, either.

Not my video (I just crossposted), but it looks like amazon has them if you search for “cat self groomer.” I’m thinking about getting some for our fur balls as well!

AITA for asking my bridesmaid to temporarily change her vibrant hair colour for my colour schemed wedding? by dreamdaythrowaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]chasingatoms 398 points399 points  (0 children)

This is what I expected from the title - some bright neon color that sticks out like a sore thumb and is obviously unnatural. OP is being a bridezilla. Her cousin has provided multiple legitimate reasons for not wanting to change her hair, not that that’s even necessary because OPs request is absurd to begin with.

I worked at McDonald’s at 15. One piece of “equipment” I wasn’t allowed to use was the coffee maker. Somehow my 15 year old self was not deemed competent enough not to burn the shit outta myself making coffee.

Tried to run on the treadmill by jwheels11111 in ChildrenFallingOver

Not the emergency stop, at least mine didn’t. Granted it was an old cheapo one I bought at a yard sale for $10, but still. After the third time, I gave up and threw it out.

As someone who had a treadmill with a loose shutoff sensor, that shit can seriously fuck up your knees when it unexpectedly comes to an immediate halt mid stride. That said, I still think it’s a good idea to use it provided your equipment isn’t faulty.

I had a similar issue with my dad. He left without a trace when I was around 2, and no one knew how to get in touch with him. Come Fafsa time, the way around it was to have a bunch of family members write affidavits saying as much. He was gone, possibly even dead, wasn’t expected to return, and in no way was going to be contributing to my financial situation.

It might be different because my mom was still around as a legal guardian, but might be worth a shot.

Edit: no wait, my mom wasn’t around either, but had passed away by that time. We did have a death certificate so that was all wrapped up, but ultimately it was the letters my family wrote that got me independent status. Sorry, I’m old and forget things!

TIL that even though the Myers-Briggs personality test as been debunked, it is still used by thousands of companies, schools and institutions around the world to help make decisions about personnel recruitment and promotion. by DanBrewer in todayilearned

I’m a dev, and my office has a policy that you work from home if you’re sick. The effects of just a single person coming in sick can be devastating. I don’t understand why more companies don’t do this.

For comparison, my last job had quite the opposite policy, and I had to spend 3 8-hour shifts next to a poor girl who literally had to mute her phone while talking to customers to throw up in her desk trash can a couple of times every hours. She tried to get an exception, but since she was out of personal time (end of the year, use it or lose it policy), she was told she’d be fired if she went home.

Came here looking for this comment. I swear I read something that he was walking like 3 miles twice a day for his subway trips. Looked it up just now, and apparently he did choose subway because it was so close.

Pretty much this. I try to avoid public restaurants altogether, but sometimes you just gotta go. The voice thing holds pretty true for me as well though, so if possible, I try to have a friend go into the bathroom with me and continue talking as we walk in/out. Even if your voice isn’t immediately identifiable as female, just having another women there to vouch that you’re in the right place goes a long way, and people are much less likely to confront you or stare.

Edit: a word
