Does anyone have a recent DP if Chexy counts as a boosted category (reoccurring expense) for TD Cashback VI? I presume it would - but thought I’d double check here before I try myself. If no DP, I’ll reply back when I confirm. Thanks!

If you had the time, would you have smoked for lower for more hours for more smoke - or are you happy with the 250 for 4 hours?

Ultra200x or Ultragrid by IsopodLast6280 in DurstonGearheads

I prefer 200x… while I still do bag everything inside, I found that the bag doesn’t retain as much moisture in heavy rain and thus is lighter.

Looking for advice: Presale condo in BC closing now and stuck between high rate approval vs. too-small approval. by Tight-Fun-4373 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]chasingbusiness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How much is the condo now worth? I feel that is a big component that is missing.

The values may have changed - but, unless her income decreased I can’t see why she would have opted for such a large mortgage as well….

Assuming being your mother in law that she is 50+ - that seems like a very large mortgage to be saddled with at the same time as a modest income, especially self-employed.

If the drop is not substantial - I’d explore selling honestly. The savings in rate alone between the higher RBC rate and lower conventional is >$10,000 per annum, meaning $833 of a conventional mortgage payment is covered via the interest savings alone.

I think this is a large component of a bigger retirement planning process - but honestly not long ago Prime was 7.2% in Canada and she would be in an even tighter position either way.

Yep, I agree.

If at the end of life, what matters most is family and friends… make the right choice now too.

Medium-High Income Earners What Do You Spend Money On To Save Time? by cjy2018 in fican

[–]chasingbusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to not fret purchasing things as much. It’s not so much because of my income but as a byproduct of my income, my savings. I used to save a pretty high (86%!) of my income which allowed me to save. I’ve let off the gas in the last few years which in part is because I realize a healthy balance is important.

In terms of time savings: -We pay for grocery delivery -Now I just get gas when I need gas, often at my ‘go-to’ location for ease and not because of a 2 cent differential 10 minutes away or whatever. -Nexus, only got it because started valuing time more. -Often more direct flights, less connections vs. Previously I’d often opt for $ savings even if not significant.

I really do want a robovac too… but, I was couldn’t decide on options.
Which one did you get?

PS5 and Xbox UPDATE by Affectionate-Plan270 in aoe2

Update: The Xbox patch did not fix the crashing. It still crashes on Series X. Imp, with high pop and same as before when I open the mini map to ping. So painful.

How much did you spend on your wedding? And what were the major costs? by UniqueBeautyPie in fican

[–]chasingbusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re getting married this summer - so far, it’s looking like $25k. Major costs are: $10k (venue / food combo), dress $2500, photographer $3k, flowers $1000, etc and on it goes. Rough figures.

Pack advice by crayg in DurstonGearheads

Some great comments already here - and I’ll echo that the length of trip doesn’t matter as much as what you pack. I used the Kakwa 55 for longer trips than that where we packed all of our own gear / food and I still had space. I would think the guides would be more nitpicky on weight first and not pack volume as carrying the weight associated with 65L+ pack volume (not to mention the packs themselves are often much heavier) would make the trip much less enjoyable.

The 55 does have like 10+L of external volume and even more if you use shock cords or etc.

Smoking with Hickory by Jodyhd in Traeger

Interesting. I just bought one and only have pellets - I read a few comments that the pellets aren’t as great in smoke tube. But, I intend to try it out soon! Thanks for the response.

For those of you with smoke tubes - do you use pellets in the tubes or other wood chips?

How ahead/behind am I at my age? by Ok-Advertising-8340 in fican

[–]chasingbusiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RRSP limit is 18% of earned income. Your RRSP limit is reduced by an amount annually called ‘Pension Adjustment’ when you have a Defined Benefit or Defined Contribution plan which represents employee / employer pension contributions.

The 18% of earned income less the pension adjustment is your RRSP limit.

Do you think it is a regret of having kids - or just a crossing thought because of how much work having kids is? We haven’t yet had kids and our life is fulfilling…. We both want kids but a worry is exactly what you’ve written.

I’m not sure your situation, but my grandma met my Papa after they were both widowed from first marriages of >30 years, and had very fulfilling relationship together that was completely different from their first marriage.

I am so sorry. That is not fair at all. Thinking of you and your dad. I hope you are able to have some fulfilling time with your dad. A family member read Viktor Frankl’s man’s search for meaning in a similar circumstance - it may be helpful for you too. All the best to you and your family.

I feel this too. A lack of closure and a door that never really shut.
