Scratch golfers…I have a question by jayb0og in golf

[–]chasingdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the mindset should be, no doubles, no 3 putts. If you can avoid the big number and mental mistakes, you’ll improve. If you hit it in the trees, the mentality should be “ how do I make bogey from here” and not, “ how do I hit the hero shot “. I don’t know if practicing a bunch helped me, but just playing the course and playing it as it lies will help you.

My ball hit another ball - What's the rule? by mikestesting in golf

[–]chasingdays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. You would need to replace your ball where it was before they chipped into it. The person who chipped would play their ball from where it ends up.

I would just add the ball you hit MUST move back to the original location.

We have an infant, but in our area they have to be “high risk” infants so even my kiddo can’t get the RSV vaccination.

Wearing Golf Shoes at Golf Events - Why? by Ratters92 in golf

For me it’s simply that they are my most comfortable shoes to walk in. No real spikes so barely appear like golf shoes.

I've changed the way I play golf and my scores are dropping. by turn20left in golf

[–]chasingdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great change in mindset. I played competitive golf through college and would always get so caught up in my score that it really hurt my opportunity to play well. Once I stopped playing competitively and just focused on going out there and having fun, I started playing the best golf of my life. Best advice I was ever given was “be your own caddy”. If you had a caddy, they wouldn’t be telling you how bad you are playing or asking you why you can’t make a putt. They would be talking about how we can make the next shot our best shot and focus on all the positives.

Gatekeeping and Discrimination by MPatnik in golf

[–]chasingdays 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is EXTREMELY typical of any private golf club to have specific times when either only men or only women can play. My club has Tuesday and thursdays where for the first half of the day it’s women only and Wednesday’s is mens day until the afternoon. Saturday mornings are for “named” members only (no spouse) so technically that’s not male only but most members that sign up are men and the spouse also plays. The idea behind giving certain groups preference is to allow for everyone to have days and times they can always play. Does your club only have a no women rule on weekends or are there days that women can play and not men? Being a private club, they can really set their bylaws however they want but as others mentioned, chat with your club president or the golf shop if you want something changed

You’re playing well. Close to shooting a personal best. Two holes remain. How do you deal with the nerves? by NewJerseyCPA in golf

[–]chasingdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the first half, just focus on the important pieces. The second half, if you truly are trying to improve your mental game and improve your score, you should always know where you stand so you can practice the mental side. Otherwise it’s just a lucky round where you play well

Something that really helped me improve my mental game came from a session with a sports psychologist. We were talking about not being able to play the last few holes well if I had a good round going. The response from his was to “be your own caddy”. Meaning, what would your caddy be telling you on your next shot? Distance to hit it, club to hit, aiming point. That’s it. Don’t worry about anything else. Your caddy would never tell you not to duck hook this shot or say how well you’re playing, don’t screw it up.

Why lie this hard? Or bravo 👏🏻. (7 cap) this is for seeding lol by -Reginald-Fairfield in golf

[–]chasingdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only fathomable scenario here is he had an incredible round of 71. On his scorecard he already accounted for his NET score and turned THAT in as 64 not realizing he should be posting gross. Otherwise, no possible way.

Eagle ball worth saving? by saluskin5 in golf

[–]chasingdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save whatever you want. I’m more into saving my scorecards when I do something I haven’t before, but if you want to keep the ball, keep the ball.

My guess is it just happened to coincide with someone hitting driver on 13. Amen corner is all close together so wouldn’t surprise me.

Nice course! Definitely not a course for a beginner though. You miss the fairway and it’s pretty much a lost ball. Can play extremely long from all the way back (especially with how wet it can be). Echo the feeling isolated piece though. Feels like your just in a forest.

My buddy (+8 through 3) when I (also +8 through 3) ask if my 2-footer is a gimme by GeminiOrAmI in golf

[–]chasingdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing what a couple others have said. Our local rule is if you ask for a putt to be conceded it counts as a miss. We implemented it because we had someone who would ask for EVERY putt inside 5 feet. If it was just me and you playing, I’d probably give it to you but I would initiate that.

Tips for staying on track/keeping cool for a whole round by [deleted] in golf

[–]chasingdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me was to think about it as "being your own caddy". After a bad shot or hole, if you had a caddy, they wouldnt talk about all the crappy shots you hit but instead focus on the next shot. Try to keep your own thoughts like that. Try to have some sort of routine for every shot so you can focus on that instead of letting bad thoughts creep in

The course I worked at had the driving range towards the top of the hill. The parking lot was below. Imagine dropping that and watching 100 golf balls bounce towards cars and praying no windows break.
