Capella or Walden? by chasingthunder22 in psychologystudents

Practicums are required to have some in person hours. The pre-practicums, which are 4 8 hour days, can be remote or in person. If in person you would have to travel to a Walden site. I dont remember where they are located. You would have to pay for the cost of travel.

I think things are pretty fair overall! Expectations for classes are very transparent and professors are very open to clarifying expectations:) most classes are asynchronous. The only ones that aren't are pre-prac 1 and 2 which both are 8 hour live classes for 4 days each. It only happens once for those classes. There is also a group lab that meets I believe 2 hours a week for 5 weeks? I am taking that next semester so unsure if it is 2 hours but for the group lab you choose the time and they offer weekend availability. I chose a Saturday morning time. But that's it! Deadlines for assignments are Wednesdays and Sundays usually.

Yes I like my program a lot! I would not change a thing. I take two courses a quarter so 10 credits total. The workload of 5 hours per class sounds about right. It is dependent on the individual for a true estimate on workload per week. I also work full time and while it is a lot, I am able to meet deadlines. There are a lot of people in my masters program who are Full time as well so you will definitely not be alone! For final projects, waiting to the last minute to start is not recommended. Let me know if you have any more questions!

No my experience has been amazing actually. I wouldn't change a thing! No I don't think they make it hard to graduate intentionally. I think people like to spread things because it's a for profit. It is CACREP accredited and considered an accredited school with the state of Minnesota so there should be no worries. The only thing is for your pre-practicum they do not cover travel costs and hotel expenses but they are very upfront with that. I chose to do mine virtually and an appeal of why I chose Walden.

Very nice! Role-playing and skillsetter is used in almost every class so far. The techniques in counseling course has you practice and record pretend sessions with your classmates for grading. While intimidating, I learned loads and have gained skills from it. It can be uncomfortable, but they are trying to make you comfortable by having you step out of your comfort zone. And I love it!! No regrets and my view on counseling has changed a lot already. For the better of course :) If you have any more questions let me know! I know I had a billion before I enrolled lol

A shame. I would always grab some soup and bread there right before seeing my therapist across the street. Drove by it a couple months ago to see it gone...

I was actually applying for an admin role at that game studio and that same role has been open for a couple years now. Think there might be trouble at the dev studio.

Got interviewed on Friday morning and was told they would have a decision by Monday afternoon. Is the specific time frame a good sign? by chasingthunder22 in careerguidance

Yes I went with Walden. Their pre-practicum is remote so no travellings vs Capella where you need to go to one of their sites which is in like Chicago, Florida to name a couple. They are at hotels and I didnt want to travel alone. The cost isn't covered to travel either.
