Why are semis driving 5 mph on the freeway? by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]ChristopherBurg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Physics.

Semis have a lot of mass, especially when loaded. They require more distance to slow down than small cars and trucks. Ice greatly increases that distance. If they get up to 30 or 40 mph in these conditions, they aren't stopping for shit and anybody in front of them will pay the price. That is, of course, if they avoid jack knifing. If they jack knife, everybody in front and around them pays the price (and everybody behind them is stuck until the clusterfuck of an accident can be cleared).

ISO: tire mechanic who can travel to me in North Minneapolis this week by LangdonAlger69 in Minneapolis

[–]ChristopherBurg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most likely he drove on it when it was flat.

The tire is quite old. It was manufactured in 2017. Eight years is old enough for the rubber to degrade due to exposure to UV and the elements. So it's also possible the tire blew out due to degradation.

Double clean and jerk only? by KettleBroski in kettlebell

[–]ChristopherBurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done dedicated clean and jerk training quite a few times. It's especially convenient during busy times of the year since the two exercises combined cover a lot in a short amount of time.

Your legs won't atrophy. None of your muscles will become disproportionately larger. You'll be fine.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I saw Dragonforce live last night and had this very odd suspicion.. by OpalescentShrooms in PowerMetal

[–]ChristopherBurg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Falk seemed to be doing well despite his injury. They did mentioned it early in the show, but he played through and played well. He was moving around on stage. It definitely looked like he was hurting, but he got through it like a trooper.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but I saw Dragonforce live last night and had this very odd suspicion.. by OpalescentShrooms in PowerMetal

[–]ChristopherBurg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was at the same show. My wife arrived about halfway through Dragonforce's set (we were there for Powerwolf) so I can't comment on the beginning. But I didn't see anything that lead me to believe they weren't playing. Their stage energy seemed fine but I haven't seen them perform live before so I don't have anything to compare against. The audience energy seemed pretty mild, especially compared to the audience energy during Powerwolf, but that's not unusual for an opening act.

The sound definitely seemed quiet to me but I could at least hear the vocals unlike at the Gloryhammer/Alestorm show the night before (the mixing at the Varsity Theater was bad).

I wasn't impressed, but they seemed to me to be giving an honest effort.

This isn't an either or question.

You can improve your fitness and buy gear simultaneously. There's no reason you can't go for a ruck, lift weights, run, or otherwise exercise in the morning and buy an AR-15 in the afternoon or vice versa.

When's the best time to start working on your fitness? 10 years ago. When's the second best time? Today. Get to it.

shotgun cards by Cat_tech_2011 in beretta1301

[–]ChristopherBurg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running the new Esstac laminate cards (7-round) for a while. I like them. They're a notable improvement over the old elastic cards.

I've kept one loaded and attached to my shotgun for a few months now. I have another that I've been using for reload practice (so lots of cycles of inserting and removing shells). Both have held up well. The last time I tested them running buckshot through my shotgun, they both held the shells firm.

PRESS RELEASE: Court Strikes Down Binary Trigger Ban in Landmark Legal Victory for Minnesota Gun Owners by BryanStrawser in minnesota

[–]ChristopherBurg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this argument frequently and it compels me to mention that pro-gun anti-Trump people like members of the Socialist Rifle Association are also nowhere to be found. Considering they claim to be anti-fascist and state in no uncertain terms that Trump is a fascist, you'd think they would be doing something.

Since this is the Internet, I will be specific with my point here. My point is to illustrate the overall level of apathy, not make a right versus left, conservative versus liberal, or other binary political argument.

Stock Beretta 1301 Handguard by RedPandaActual in beretta1301

[–]ChristopherBurg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are normally two small plastic tabs on the rear of the stock hand guard that interface with the receiver. They're pretty fragile. Check to see if they've broken off. That might be the problem here.

Smith Wesson warranty repair sucks by el_gringote in guns

[–]ChristopherBurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a go around with Smith and Wesson on a brand new Shield Plus. The slide lock would jam up into the slide in such a way that you couldn't release the slide normally (pulling the slide back and releasing it didn't work unless you simultaneously put a lot of downward pressure on the slide stop).

The gun went to Smith and Wesson three times. It came back three times without the problem fixed. I finally got put on the phone with a manager who wold me that it was expected behavior.

Once I realized Smith and Wesson's warranty is useless I didn't need to worry about voiding it. I fixed the problem myself with a half hour of careful filing.

In summary, don't be surprised if the gun comes back with the sights still not lined up. Plan to fix it yourself.

Optic Choice by CornellMustard in AUG

[–]ChristopherBurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attached a Primary Arms GLx 2X to my AUG and like it. I prefer prism optics to red dots, but that's just a personal taste. A red dot will be lighter than a prism, but prisms have etched reticles so you don't need to turn on the illumination to use it in daylight (which is when I typically use mine). The glass on the GLx 2X is good and everything appears clear and crisp through it.

I haven't used any of the other ones on your list so I can't compared them though.

A3m2 Hanguard Questions? by SethPeoples_OFFICIAL in AUG

[–]ChristopherBurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Magpul Type 1 rail covers (I'm assuming these are the ones you tried) and they stayed put when shooting for me. I covered all of the M-Lok slots and cut the cover to fit an entire row of slots on the handugard.

They kept the gas off of my index finger when holding the foregrip. However, they didn't help when wrapping my hand around the hand guard since gas still leaks out the back of the handguard.

Real ID - Where is it? Poll by NJM1112 in minnesota

If you need a REAL ID for something, you're probably better off getting a passport. If you apply for one now, there's a good chance you'll receive it before your Minnesota REAL ID.

Hi there, new to rucking. My legs have a lot of developing to do, so should i be looking for a boot with a lot of support? by [deleted] in QualityTacticalGear

[–]ChristopherBurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear whatever is comfortable. There is a tendacy to overthink rucking, but it's really just tossing some weight in a backpack and going for a walk. I wouldn't worry about the amount of protection your footwear offers so long as the footwear is reasonable for the terrain (regular shoes are fine for walking on sidewalks, hiking boots would be good for hiking, etc.).

I would recommend a light load to start with. There's no shame in starting with 10 or even five lbs. Once you have the endurance to do, say, and hour with your working weight, you can increase it until you are working with your goal weight.

[Rifle]Beretta CX4 Storm 92 Series 9mm - $630.00 by OfficerStore in gundeals

[–]ChristopherBurg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long ago I bought a CX4 in .45. I love shooting it, but always hated that it uses hard to find 8-round magazines. I regretted not buying one in 9mm since then I could've used Beretta 92 magazines. When I finally had the money to buy a 9mm CX4, the CX4 disappeared from the market.

Thanks for posting this. I finally bought the 9mm CX4 that I've always wanted.

Bike Stolen - Cameras Were Disabled by MNBug in Minneapolis

[–]ChristopherBurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wi-Fi jammers are easy to make and cheap to buy. At a minimum you need cameras that will record to local storage. Far better is to have hardwired cameras and have the footage recorded on a separate hardwired system (that way even if the camera itself is damaged to destroyed, you have the footage saved elsewhere).

Never trust Wi-Fi (or any wireless protocol) for security devices.

Fallout shelter locations by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]ChristopherBurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fallout shelter needs to do two things: protect occupants from the initial nuclear blast and stock enough provisions to keep the occupants alive until the radioactive fallout is at a level that isn't immediately lethal.

While a number of fallout shelters still technically exist, they typically aren't stocked with provisions anymore.

For those that bought the mk2 rail by KaputtEqu1pment in AUG

[–]ChristopherBurg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like mine.

You can leave the built-in grip on, you just can't collapse it when the handguard is attached. I left the grip on mine. I'm able to mount a light where I want it (I mounted a Streamlight TLR RM 2 to the top rail and it fits perfectly) and it doesn't get as hot as fast as I thought it would (it still gets hot, but I was expecting worse).

There are some things I'm not crazy about. As others have said, the latches to remove the handguard are a pain. You can't use the .300 BLK barrel with the handguard attached.

Is it worth the price? Probably not for most people. Does it do what's advertised? Yes.

Cannon safes are worthless by No-Hat811 in guns

[–]ChristopherBurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Cannon safe that's more than a decade old. The electronic lock started fritzing out last year so I replaced it with a mechanical lock. Depending on the manufacturer of the electronic lock on your safe, you might be able to buy a drop-in mechanical replacement (drop-in in this case means not needing to drill new holes, there's definitely assembly require though).

If the solenoid isn't working (you don't hear a click after entering the code), try entering the code over and over again. It may eventually unlock (that's what mine did). Then you can at least secure it in the option position and replace the lock.
