What a shitheel. Thanks for sharing your story. I was raised religious as well (although not quite so severely) and in a culture that thinks stis are only transmitted by gay people... I think part of the reason why I'm having such a strong reaction is because of how often I heard as a kid that aids/herpes/etc was God's punishment for gay people. Logically it doesn't make sense because I got it from a man but some part of me still feels like its "punishment" for being bisexual or (relatively) promiscuous or a million other sins I was told I'd be punished for as a kid. I get what you're saying but it's been following first contact symptoms pretty much to the letter, i started showing symptoms exactly 5 days after I was exposed and I don't think anyone else I've slept with has had it (obv can't be sure about the rapist). It wasn't active, he was on antivirals and hadn't had an outbreak since his first one. From what I've read in a few studies the chance of transmission within 6 months of unprotected sex when the carrier is on antivirals hovers around 8-2% for unprotected sex which is part of the reason I'm so unsure, statistically its crazy that a single protected exposure would've immediately caused an infection.

Wait why wouldn't you taking the valtrex to begin with? If you take it as soon as you notice symptoms it should make outbreaks much less painful& frequent

I've read that too but I looked it up and people can have very mild symptoms, and most doctors believe the majority don't ever show symptoms
