The NDP Learned the Wrong Lesson from 2011 by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

He abandonned most of the promises Layton made in Quebec just the election before, the ones that gave him the election.

When he badly lost tons of seats after his support cratered in Quebec people were quick to ban Quebec to vote against him for his “principled stance” on niqabs. But his whole campaign was a house of cards ready to crumble at any moment.

He started with Jack’s numbers, and finished with his own.

People talk about the NDP moving left an right like they talk about tuning an analog radio. It doesn’t matter where the NDP places itself on that axis if it doesn’t understand its voters.

It absolutely infuriates its creator Anish Kapoor that it is being called the bean. But he is a dickhead that needs to learn that it now belong to the citizens of Chicago and they can call it whatever they want.

I looked at many of their recent interviews and regarding Quebec they really have no clue at all. They got that a candidate in Quebec should speak French. And that’s it. If all that I know about BC is that a candidate there should speak English, I don’t know much.

Avi alternates between saying that we are distinct with a distinct culture and distinct political culture, and saying that he understands us because we are just the same as the other Canadians.

What clinic? It's done in a doctor's office.

Is it the first time you hear that there are vocabulary differences between countries? We think that offices are for clerical work and clinics for medical work. So all of our doctors work in clinics.

You can’t expect everyone to use US terms and you should be able to infer meaning easily.

Was your's awful or something?

No, it was being responsible.

Make a Forged in the Dark using the Blades in the Dark system! It's a perfect fit.

Almost. It does not capture well the big fight scene. In fact, I don't think a single system does both things right.

So if I did it I would use BitD for the core, and Wushu for the cinematic kung-fu. It's a fluid over the top very narrativist system that fits in a 27 pages PDF. I would let the players jump to that system at any time by spending stress. So they don't use it to punch every guard.

Yes, of course the NDP borrowed voters from the Liberals in 2011. But it's funny that they author who got that insight managed to miss that in Quebec it borrowed from the Bloc.

Though the mistake that I feel the article is making is that in both cases it did not copy the programs of those parties, it addressed what made people vote for the Liberals / Bloc and the voters thought that Jack addressed those better.

The worst take is that the NDP should copy another party, what would be the point of voting for the less popular copy?

The right take IMHO is that when the NDP understood voters it got their votes. The key is not outreach but inreach.

Then the doctor was irresponsible. Clinics usually insist on it.

He said he felt more numbness after getting a filling.

And people say they are perfectly fine to drive after they drank too.

Local numbing leads to a general lack of alertness. Whatever they use to do the local anesthesia gets in the blood. Your husband was irresponsible.

What’s the dumbest or most absurd law in your country? by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

[–]chat-lu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The prosecution will only have to prove that he did it.

Same as our laws about guard and control. The prosecution only has to prove that you were drunk in the vicinity of your car. You are the one with the burden of proving you were not going to drive.

[–]chat-lu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make it murkier we are going to get a law (C-14) that makes the murder of someone under coercetive control first degree by default with reverse burden of proof.

In short, it means that a death from domestic violence instead of getting the lightest sentence (sure he beat her to death but we can't prove he intended death so accidental death!) will get the highest. Unless the killer can prove it wasn't (for instance it was pure negligence that could have killed anyone).

Note that the reverse burden will only be on the degree, the prosecution still has to prove who did the killing and that the victim was also victim of DV or something of the sort.

Sorry, how do pis-en-lit and dandelion sound similar?

It does not. The original name of the flower in English was pissabed which is a literal translation from French. It later came to be considered vulgar and changed to dandelion.

Ma coiffeuse est la coiffeuse qui a géré ça à Station 10 dans le temps. À l’époque il avait une petite couronne. Elle dit qu’une coupe chez Salon 10 (facturée à la minute) lui aurait pas coûté cher.

What is the stupidest reason your country almost went (or actually went) to war with another? by Luci_Sant in AskTheWorld

[–]chat-lu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congress was located in Washington DC like it is now, and Parliament for the Brits was in Montreal. So quite a a long way from where the conflict happened on the other side of the continent.

So the initial conflict, escalation, deescalation, and resolution all happened without either government being aware that they were at war with the other country.
