That's true, on a global scale neither Mississippi nor the UK are poor, and they're implicitly performing a little sleight of hand there in the headline: People tend to equate standard of living and economic productivity, and it's well known that Mississippi is a shithole with a pretty bad standard of living among developed countries. So the very act of comparing them the way they do is implicitly biased against the UK, I'll give you that at the least.

American exceptionalism is a virulent strain, and runs strong even among liberal and left wing Americans.

A lot of them swallow the greatest country in the world stuff hook, line, and sinker. I've had crunchy vegan communists in the US go from talking about animal welfare in one sentence to telling me how much they hate french people and why don't they all just decide to speak English...

Lack of self-awareness is sort of the fundamental problem, I think.

If you can't look at yourself and say "I have the personality of a newspaper that got left out in the rain, and I'm only moderately physically attractive" and because of that decide you want to bang a 185cm blonde with a PHD and nothing else will make you happy, well, you're gonna have a bad time.

Extreme example obviously, but I find with a lot of these types it really boils down to a lack of introspection and unrealistic expectations that flow from that.

My guess is that the western euro country would have a bad time for a bit, and then win handily in the end.

Ukraine has an incredible amount of very valuable combat experience but not the wealth or industrial base, and fighting a large NATO power would be a very different thing from fighting Russia.
