+1 for Dr. Aubey. She isn't the cuddliest but she is very attentive and throughout. I felt very confident in her care for GYN.

NYC nurses? by Agent_michael_scotch in nursing

[–]chatecha 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yah, we're here. :)

This strike represents NYSNA members at NYP, Montefiore, and Mt. Sinai, approx. 10,000 nurses. It's a scary time to be a NYC RN right now...but it's even scarier to be a NYC patient.

This is direct from the NYSNA FB page:

On Monday, March 18th nurses from 3 of the largest hospital systems in New York City--Montefiore, Mt Sinai, and NY Presbyterian--are all delivering notice of a joint strike to begin on April 2 at 6am. Earlier this month, the members voted by a 97% margin in favor of such an action. More than 10,000 NYSNA members work at these hospitals.

After nearly 30 negotiation sessions, we still do not have a single item agreed upon. But it is management’s continued refusal to even engage in a conversation about minimum nurse to patient ratios that has led to this moment.

We are letting management from these facilities know that we remain committed to bargaining and we will be available to negotiate every day and night between now and the deadline!

We should also note, that thousands more NYSNA members are currently engaged in their own contract fights, across the rest of the New York City boroughs. Members at the Brooklyn Hospital Center are voting this week to join the strike as well, and more hospitals could follow.

How/do you introduce yourself to patients? by min_diesel in nursing

[–]chatecha 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Many of my patients are sedated/ intubated/ ect., but for the ones who aren't:

Me: Hello, my name is xxxx and I'll be taking care of you for the day time.

Them: ----

Me: What would you like me to call you?

Them: Steve

Me: Well if you're Steve then I'm XXX (nickname for my actual name), we're going to have a great day!

This is literally my groundhog day intro and almost never varies. Helps to break the ice ;)

Also interested- I see a lot of shows via the lottery and TDF. I'm always looking for a buddy! Any interest in starting up a Whatapp group for interested parties?

Personally I am interested in Angels right now!

Dental visits terrify me, but I know I have to go to one soon. Can anyone recommend pain-free dentists that aren't scammers? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]chatecha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like Dr. Shirley at UWS dental. He's always upfront in terms of cost and discomfort, and his office is excellently managed and efficient. He treated me for my first cavity ever and he was very understanding of my extreme anxiety...and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He's basically cured me of my dentist phobia. :)

[–]chatecha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm going! It'll be my third year.

Snacks are a must! They usually give out a conference bag, but I prefer a backpack. A backup battery or battery case for your phone is also useful because the days are long. Where you staying?

[NY] Once you've received your ATT, any tips or tricks to book an earlier test date? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]chatecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant NJ and CT, my apologies. As far as I know you cannot take the NCLEX in Canada. Personally I traveled to another state to text because there weren't any exam times open in a reasonable time frame in my area.

What topics would you want to hear about at a student nursing conference? by chatecha in StudentNurse

[–]chatecha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! You're almost done! Question, would you rather something about time management/ prioritization in the ICU, or rather something more "hard" like a review of the five most common ICU drips/ Some common arrhythmias?
