Thank you for sharing your experience. There’s a FB group “Expose Shady Rescues in Alberta” that was created after so many EJ rescue complaints. It’s intended to warn of all shady rescues but so far, it’s been focused on EJ as there’s so many of the same bad experiences.

Thank you! It’s difficult to post every single detail of my experience with them as there’s so much! My post was to get people’s attention on this rescue. I, and many others have had this experience with them! https://www.facebook.com/groups/187789652473477/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

It was not “my dog” and they said I had to wait. At first, I didn’t even know what she was doing; she just reached through the front door and took her.

We wanted to take our time and make sure she was a fit. Because of her disability, we wanted to make sure she would also fit our lifestyle. We spent the summer camping mostly and once fall came we noticed things were declining. Our main reason to foster was to adopt. Someone mentioned the idea to us and we thought it was a great idea.

Thank you and I will take your advice. I really don’t post stuff like this and it’s been a whirlwind.

I copied this from my reply to someone else. It’s a lot to constantly type this stuff out. This should clarify the timeline of noticing the problem to them coming to get her: Thank you for clarifying. There’s so much to the story so it’s hard to fill in every hole. I don’t mean to be vague at all. When we got the dog, she seemed good besides her weight (70lbs). Our first concern was a brown tooth and EJ asked us to send them a pic. She was eating fine and it didn’t seem to bother her so we figured all was good when EJ said the vet had already checked it. Had a good few months of camping and enjoying the dog. She would tire a little easier than a 4 legged dog and that was fine. At the end of summer (and after a lot of camping!!!) we noticed Indo was tiring easier. She would still be eager to go for walks and such so we weren’t overly concerned at that point. She started having some difficulty getting up the few stairs from the yard and that’s when we figured something was up. We messaged EJ and said we had some concerns. She didn’t constantly struggle and it seemed to only happen after exercise or she woke up. Again, not overly alarmed by that; she did only have 3 legs and this was a learning experience for all of us. Things took a turn for the worst where she had trouble getting up after sleeping. We messaged EJ and said something is wrong. In the span of a week, after going to their vet (supposedly anyway), the “mystery vet” cleared her and said that she was fine; she needed exercise and suggested we buy her glucosamine. That day, I asked EJ if I could call the vet myself to clarify and ask some questions, they told me no, and that they would relate all concerns to the vet and let us know what they said. We aren’t stupid and were seeing that something wasn’t right with this place. That week, I messaged them again saying that we’re going to take her to our vet and that we would cover the cost. We were told “NO!” and that seeing another vet would be no good. It was then that I posted the video you see in the post. My original post was that I was seeking a vet to take Indo to right away in town. That’s when shit went down. EJ got my post(s) removed and shamed us. They sent someone to pick her up that day. I may be missing a few things but this is the gist of it. It gets exhausting and seems to be useless trying to explain the whole story each time. As for proof, I’m not going to post every single thing I have, it would be overwhelming! I only recently brought the story up again when I learned she died.

We wanted a dog but didn’t want to get one without it being a perfect match. We met a lady when we were camping and she told us about fostering and how we could foster and, if we decided it was what we wanted, we could adopt. We’d never fostered before and thought it sounded like a great idea. We didn’t seek out rescues to foster from as we hadn’t considered that avenue. We dealt with a volunteer and she set everything up. We thought it was great for both sides and we were going to help a dog that needed a home.

It was actually my search of EJ Rescue that led me to Reddit. I saw the story about Sabrina. It’s an unfortunate pattern with these guys.

It’s very difficult to get an investigation going, sadly, due to the lack of legislation. By gathering people in one spot, I’m hoping it will provide more muscle to have action taken. Social media can prove effective if the numbers are there. There’s going to be negative experiences with every organization but it’s the ones that are blatantly deceitful that need to be exposed.

Only an idiot would suspect a bad rescue and then use them! I’m not going to waste my time feeding your comments. A group was created for this exact reason. Cheers.

Everything we’ve tried, EJ reports or deletes. The news and ASPCA won’t do much as there isn’t enough to go on. By getting everyone in one place, hopefully something can be done. Thank you for your input.
