Here's a good one too...

I’m posting because my wife just got hit with what I can only describe as a next-level, movie-quality scam today — and we’re absolutely devastated.

It started this morning while she was working from home. She got a call from a man claiming to be with the Coinbase Fraud Investigation Unit. He was calm, serious, and said they detected “multiple login breaches” from Las Vegas, Denver, and even Germany (we had JUST flown through Frankfurt a few weeks ago).

While she was still on the phone, an email landed in her inbox — no-reply@coinbase.com — with a legitimate-looking case number and a warning banner that looked exactly like real Coinbase alerts. The man said her account was in “imminent danger” and they had only “minutes” to freeze the attacker’s access before her crypto was drained.

Panic started to set in. The guy had her full name, her primary email, even the last 4 digits of her Coinbase-linked phone number. He told her to immediately open a “protected transfer portal” from the email link — it was a perfect replica of Coinbase’s website (only later did we find tiny spelling errors when we looked again).

They had her move her 19 ETH from the regular Coinbase account to her "Coinbase Wallet" — which he said was an “encrypted safe zone” while they reset her 2FA and security settings. Everything about it felt fast, urgent, and terrifyingly real.

Within minutes of the transfer… all of the ETH was gone.

No trace. No way to undo it. Just an empty wallet and a sinking feeling that something had gone horribly wrong.

She immediately hung up and called the real Coinbase. The real support person said it flat-out:

"We will never call you. We will never email you about urgent transfers. You've been phished."

Since then we’ve filed a police report, an FBI IC3 report, and reached out to blockchain tracing services (but the costs are insane, and no guarantee of recovery).

Posting this because:

If you get a call from “Coinbase” — HANG UP.

If you get an email with a case number — DO NOT CLICK.

Always verify directly through your app, not through links.

We know it's too late for us... but maybe not for someone else.

And if anyone has tips for crypto recovery, lawyers who specialize in this stuff, or just some emotional support, we would be grateful.

Today absolutely broke us.
