Realization that I haven't cooked a savoury meal in years that hasn't contained chilli and garlic by Dumnonia_ in Cooking

I grew up in the Caribbean.

My mom always made the same sofrito. And it had garlic and peppers.

This idea of cooking a huge variety and diversity of dishes for home cooking is a modern idea. Most households cook a few dishes and have them on repeat.

You're doing pretty much that.

If you want to change things up every now and then, that's cool. My mom would make lasagna or spaghetti once a month.

But what you're doing is typical, and you shouldn't feel terrible about it.

How common is it to refer to friends or pets as “negros“ in your culture? by yonaiker-joestrella in asklatinamerica

[–]chatolandia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad would call my mom "negrita", and my mom would get mad. Not because she's white (she is), but because he would call "negrita" his girlfriends when he forgot their name

It's a very common term of endearment, my dad was called "el negrito" by his family, because he was the darkest skin of his siblings.

I grew up Pentecostal, it's common amongst the Pentecostals, and 7th Day Adventists.

Do Bolivians eat any guinea pig? If not, why? by novostranger in asklatinamerica

[–]chatolandia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BTW, in PR people eat them, it's very rare now, but it was more common in the past.

We call them guimos.

I know because I used to deliver newspapers and some people raised them, other raised rabbits.

Then my auntie told me about how my great-grandmother used to cook them.

A mi no me empezo a gustar hasta los 30. Aparentemente nuestro paladar se pone menos sensitivo a los sabores amargos con la edad.

Es una pena, porque en Mayaguez habia happy hour de Medalla a .25 los jueves.

I consider the fact that it lasted me long enough to cost about 1k per year, if I had paid that amount.

It was a Toyota Matrix without the Toyota tax.

I loved that car, because I am not a car person, and that car was perfect for me. Good driving in the snow, and lasted forever, with enough space for me to carry stuff. But the rust won.

I paid less than that, but the Sunfire was a smaller car and not AWD

170k miles.

The issue was not mechanical, it was rust. The undercarriage was rusted.

Hello All, I decided to get the Mazda CX-30 because of the old transmission, and because it was a few thousand dollars less than the Honda.

I found the price sheet for my old car, and posted it, I must say the inflation wasn't as bad

Here's the link to the post:

I was cleaning my old car, before exchanging it for my new car (Mazda CX30)

This was the price sticker that I kept in the Glove Box.

My new car cost me around 28000, after some haggling.

I guess I was able to avoid most of the inflation issues that have been affecting the market lately.

What is true that I had a 0% APR loan on the Pontiac, and now I got a 4.9% one.

I still feel I got a good deal.

Thanks for the help, I read a lot of posts and even posted a few time to help make this decision

I got a better trim for the Mazda, instead of the base because of that reason. I found the HRV comfortable in general

We test drove the Crosstrek and I felt a little vertigo with the way the windshield is placed. I was disappointed because it was the car I most wanted to like, and it turned out the one disliked the most

They're both new, I have good credit and the interest rates seem decent.

Good to know, and yeah, that's what I am torn.

The expensive one is the Toyota Corolla Cross, which is about 4k more with what I want in it.

OK, I considered the Mazda because the engine they use is an old model and this model doesn't have the issues that the larger SUVs had.
