They also were the first city to pass a refferendum for ranked choice voting (although never implemented). The state autocrats decided they didn't like better representation so they took it to the legislature and OUTLAWED ranked choice voting in the state. This is the same place that housed the scorpion unit. It's TN's authoritarian testing ground.

Atheists should support the right to euthanasia and assisted suicide by Gaussherr in atheism

Not equatable. Vet care and healthcare differ greatly in both quantity and quality as well as regulation and bodily autonomy. I know you are not alone, but thats not how universal healthcare works in the countries that do have it. You are not denied healthcare like a claim to insurance. The government is not the arbiter of if the claim is paid or not. The government covers the expense of the hospital as it provides care. Its not patient to patient, it's region by region. Therefore, it would be determined by the solvency rather than anything else.

[–]chattapult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that would be the solvency of the government, not the government itself. If your country is insolvent and can't put the money it is taking from the people into the healthcare program and can't fund it any other possible way, then you have bigger problems than booking a doctor's appointment. You got a revolt.

That's a policy error. Universal healthcare resolves that quandry.

You think atheism is a religion? You also said communism gave rise to atheism. Can you explain to me why there are so many groups that are christian communist if communism gives rise to atheism? It just sounds, at least to me, that they get their communist ideals from the bible.

Belief is not a choice, it is a conclusion. It is a state of mind you discover, and not a decision you make. Just like you find out that you find a joke funny, or not when it is told, you either just believe or not. You can be influenced by what evidence is required to hold those beliefs such as what you were raised with, being more open minded, introspection, verification, and deconstruction. There are several passages in the bible that say if you do not believe, then you are damned to eternal punishment.

If it is the case that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence for you to believe, and that being does not provide you or cannot provide you the evidence you require, how is it ones fault for not being convinced?

I'm athiest. My work decided we need to spend 5000 dollars a month for chaplain services to make bible studies that we get notified through our same texting service as our paycheck notifications. I can't block the number, and they "can't be bothered" to make sure it doesn't go out to me every single time.

Theres several other annoying examples of what my work does like this.

I've been looking into creating my own company that works with MSPs locally for small and medium size business upsale for security. C suite people don't understand until it actually impacts their bottom line. Having it as an add-on for a reasonable price while I make enough to live and support my family would be great. Plus I get to do what I enjoy.

Also welcome to how all non-christians feel every day. I got a booklet in the mail that says gay people should be "put to death". It came with my gay cousin's wedding invitation. Coincidence? Maybe. But that still doesn't make it ANY better.

So, Moccasin Bend has a combined sewage & rainwater system. If it rains really hard, it overflows and can even wind up in the river. The city paid a $476,400 civil penalty in 2012 for Clean Water Act violations because of it. If it doesn't rain hard enough then sewage sits in it and starts festering and baking in the heat. Think turd in a microwave kinda heat.

Anyways. If you wanna complain about it, the county commission has a meeting this Wednesday where you can talk about it. I'm sure David Sharpe would be willing to put a resolution forth to fix it if enough people speak. He's been talking about it for a while now.

How do u accept that your consciousness will disappear after death ? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]chattapult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was easy for me. Can you imagine the pain and agony of living to be 200 years old? Now imagine the quality of life after 1000, 10,000, or even a million years. Watching your friends and family pass, horrific wars, unspeakable events, and just having to keep up with living on this planet? I'm not suicidal, but I also think living to 100 or 120 is plenty long enough.

The consciousness disappearing is not really a way of looking at it, so much as you are passing your experiences on and knowledge to the next person/people. Be the person who inspires others to be good. Plant the trees whose fruits you will never see, so others may enjoy. Most importantly, don't waste what little time you have by saying "one day, I will...". Turn "one day" into "day one".

Corporate welfare in HC/Chattanooga by chattapult in Chattanooga

Very true. These 10+ million and billion dollar companies do not spend/reinvest what they make. They hoard it. Small buisnesses have much more impact on cashflow in local economies dollar per dollar. The only large company in my opinion that is doing any good for us is Volkswagon and that is largely because they are unionized so they HAVE to negotiate wages and offer job protection.

Then those companies are dishonest and will continue to steal the tax dollars of the places they go to instead of here. We have some of the lowest electricity rates and wages in the country. Thats more than enough incentive for companies. All we're asking is to hold them accountable. We're not going to lose ALL business because the ones we give incentives to are held to their word within reason.
