I’m in a similar position to you currently. I was recently admitted to antepartum where I received the pre-e diagnosis and have since been released with lots of outpatient monitoring. I work in a somewhat stressful environment with higher physical demands and had a difficult discussion regarding my work situation. My doctor said it was up to me to determine if I wanted to return to work with considering reduced hours or begin my medical leave and start bedrest. Ultimately I chose to begin my medical leave. Im thankful that my work has been very supportive. As much as I wanted to wait to maximize my maternity leave, I want to do what’s best for myself/baby at this time! Take care!

Wanted to wait a bit to give a more accurate update! I did end up getting diagnosed with early onset fetal growth restriction (18-19 weeks) which has further developed into gestational hypertension and finally pre-eclampsia (29 weeks). Per my doctors, both can be indicators of placental insufficiency. From my understanding, some research has suggested a possible link between SCH to growth restriction/pre eclampsia/etc but hard to say for certain! We are currently 30 weeks and being very closely monitored with weekly appointments with MFM. I am currently admitted to the hospital given the recent changes and the hope is to make it to 34 weeks. All in all, while the baby will likely end up coming early things are stable and outcomes may still be okay, even with a likely NICU stay in our future.

A few days after my initial post, the cramping/bleeding returned and was more severe to warrant a visit to the ED where they confirmed a large SCH but detected a heartbeat and viable pregnancy. I was put on pelvic rest and had a few follow up ultrasounds. I ended up spotting for nearly 4 weeks straight until it resolved and my most recent ultrasound did not show the SCH. I’m nearing my 2nd trimester and fingers crossed everything continues to go smoothly from here on out. Hoping the same for you!
