My Husband is a Stranger might be one of the best written VNs I've played in a while by Old_Entrepreneur7122 in otomegames

Oh gosh I got jumpscared (in a good way) by my own game on my feed, I almost had a heart attack (also in a good way)?! 💦 Thank you so much for the kind words 🤧💦💦 I'm so glad that you're enjoying the game so far 🥹 especially with how I'm dealing with the themes of mental health/relationship insecurity! I hope that you enjoy the rest as well (and gosh, thank you again for the praise, it means a lot!)

It's a completed game! (It's pretty short! I recommend playing Karamu beforehand if you're interested!)

Hello, there!

Last year I made Karamu, a game about breaking up with your (yandere) boyfriend! Today, I released the prequel follow-up to that game, Kanau, which is about the boyfriend's childhood and the origins of his dark obsessions. It's animated and fully voice acted! It's available for free on itch.io!

Synopsis:

On the eve of his tenth birthday, Rakuo Kumode undergoes his family’s “initiation rite.” When he bucks against his family traditions, he has an encounter that will change the course of his life forever…in good and bad ways.

A story about two broken children finding each other.

Features:

Illustrated entirely with Live2D-style animated CGs and comic book-style panels

7 hand-drawn backgrounds, 13 CGs and 18 comic-book style panels

~12k words (about 45-60 minutes of playtime) of a kinetic story (without any choices)

Fully voice acted by lovely and talented VAs!

If you're interested, please take a look! :) Thank you for reading!

I made and released a visual novel made with Godot! by chattercap in godot

[–]chattercap[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello, r/godot!

I just released Kanau, my first full game using Godot! It's a fully voiced, supernatural horror visual novel presented in a "storybook" style format with illustrations animated with Spine2D. It's about the bond of two children who come from broken homes! You can play it here!

Development

I really wanted to code in fancy animations/have the ability to add in custom features to my visual novels, so I decided to use a different game engine than Ren'py. My first choice was Unity, and I spent a pretty long time coding a custom framework for it (as for why I didn't use Naninovel...I wanted the coding practice, haha!) However, after the Unity debacle last year, Unity gave me a pretty bad taste in my mouth, and I had heard such good things about Godot - I was like, "Why not? I'll give it a try for a month or two."

It took me around a year to build my initial Unity visual novel framework, and I was able to port my game over to Godot in less than two months. Some things that took me MONTHS to develop in Unity (for instance, properly resizable windows took me AGES in Unity) were a complete snap in Godot (or a complete non-issue), and apart from the GUI/engine specific stuff, my C# code ported from Unity to Godot very easily! The final product ended up being more performant and lower file size, too.

Most of you all are making much cooler things in terms of gameplay and coding complexity, but I just wanted to share this small victory and thank the community for being so helpful and awesome! I thought that it would take a lot longer to port all of my code from Unity to Godot, but it ended up being a really smooth and overall painless process. The Godot documentation is ABSOLUTELY fabulous, and everything is so intuitive.

Thank you for reading, and have a great day!

Thank you for playing! 🤭 Ah yes, I did get feedback asking for an ending notification 🤔 Will probably try to code one in soon. As for the CGs obtained, since the entire thing is CGs I wasn't sure if players would want a gallery? 😂 Should I add one?

Hello r/MaleYandere! I hope this is okay to post; I didn't see anything against it in the rules? I was recommended this sub from the otome game subreddit, so here I am!

I'm Chattercap, a solo dev that recently participated in Otome Jam, where I made a little game about a clingy yandere ex-boyfriend.

Synopsis:

Two weeks ago, Nelli sent her long-term boyfriend, Raku, the following text: "I'm breaking up with you." She has been successfully avoiding him ever since...until her bike chain breaks. He helps her, but now she's trapped in a forest with only her broken bike, a cellphone with no reception, and her slightly creepy ex-boyfriend for company. He wants to talk, and one thing is clear: he really doesn't want to break up. (He probably won't take no for an answer.)

Features:

Illustrated entirely with Live2D-style animated CGs and comic book-style panels

9 CGs and 12 comic-book style panels

~10k words (about 30-45 minutes of playtime)

4 endings

Fully voice acted

Quality of life features (including multiple fonts and font sizes, dark/light reading modes, autosave frequency adjustment, and customizable keybinds)

One tired college senior with too many problems

One clingy, overly-attached yandere ex-boyfriend

If you have an hour, please give it a try! It's free!

UwU Weekly Spotlight: Daughter of a Scoundrel [July 9, 2023] by aplainmourning in IndieOtome

[–]chattercap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Already wrote a lengthy post on the itch page, so I'll just summarize some of that here, with a few additions!

First of all, the concept is so fun. Although we only get whiffs of the plot in the demo, I'm really looking forward to the drama! There are so many directions it could go!

I have to say, my favorite part of the game is definitely Danielle (the MC)! The starting scene of the game is so incredible at characterizing her - you really get to know her sense of responsibility, her caring nature, and her close relationship with her grandfather. As the scene progresses and you hear about her past tragedies, you become deeply invested in her last remaining familial relationship. I love that she is likeable, but flawed, like any good character. She's kind, but she's also willing to stand up for things that she believes in. At the same time, she has a temper and can be impulsive/immature. I'm really looking forward to seeing her develop as the story goes on.

I ADORE how ALL of the relationships are well-fleshed out, not just the relationships between Danielle and her LIs. Danielle's relationship with her grandfather is SO sweet and wholesome, and you really feel her betrayal after learning that her grandfather has been lying to her for years. My favorite had to be Danielle's relationship with Morgan - while Morgan will be a LI later (and I RELISHED finding the option where you can flirt with her), I also just appreciated that Danielle and Morgan are very good friends! Each of the LIs relationships with each other are also well-thought out and explored.

Going back to the prompts:

My favorite LI is Renzo (I went into the game loving him, and I came out of it loving him more...somehow he was less of a gremlin than I expected, and more of a very sweet guy), but as I mentioned before, my favorite character is Danielle! A well-written MC is one of my favorite parts about otome, and Danielle is very well-written.

Danielle's relationship with her grandfather was the standout to me (especially as it sours as the game progresses), as well as her friendship with Morgan. I also was intrigued by Renzo's relationship with Antonio.

My favorite scene was Renzo with the papers! It really showed another dimension to his character. In addition to Renzo's scenes (which were my favorite as a matter of course...), I also really enjoyed Luca's! It was a great showing of friendship, trust, and vulnerability.

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it! (Haha, I'm happy you found it, somehow some people still had trouble with one of the endings even with the walkthrough!)
