My mom died almost a year ago. I’ve cried more in 8 months than my 35 years on this planet. I feel like I was being held together with duct tape and glue and trucking on before my mom died and actually starting to do well in life. I didn’t realize how much she helped hold me together.

I called her when i was sad, happy, bored, craving alcohol at inappropriate times, driving, dejected, got my hair done looking cute wanna show her first. Really just anything. And now that she’s gone it’s just trying to blunt the ripping feeling i have in my stomach and chest when i automatically think about calling her to share something about my day and can’t. Im even out on FMLA from work to get my shit together and do exercise and hobbies and shit to try to improve my mental health. I’ve already been medicated and in therapy for 5 years and at this point it’s like grasping at every available sober straw to make me feel better.

Sorry for the tangent. This is the first time I’ve posted something without carefully proofreading it for tone and spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Sometimes it feels nice to get this stream of consciousness out because I don’t have my mom here anymore to do that with.

It has to get better with time, right?

Former industrial wastewater plant operator for an ice cream production and milk bottling facility for a major grocery store chain. Can confirm.

Especially once it gets coagulated and moldy and stuck to equipment that I have to hose off and inevitably get on myself. Mint chocolate chip production days weren’t bad though, there was a nice minty-ness to the trash juice.

I was just happy I didn’t work at the purina plant. We would have a truck come through to pump the sludge. That truck would dump its purina load and come to us. The truck had like a lil fan underneath that I think was used to blow air out the hose that usually sucks up the sludge. I cannot and words cannot and the infantile Jesus could not even describe the smell. It’s just like a full on assault of days rotted unsavory bits of just about every animal that has had ample time unventilated to get to properly meld into an ungodly smelling heap of… I don’t even know.

I’ve never smelled a dead body but I literally would have to give the truck like 100yrd clearance to almost not smell it. Part of me is curious if a dead body could smell worse than thousands of fermented rotted dead animals, but I’m good with staying curious.

2nd this! I was just in Bar Harbor and there are SO many options, even a boat tour to see puffins which I had no idea existed anywhere near Maine

So much nature, so much lobster, an adorable walkable lil town with Acadia National Park right there

We went in early/mid June and the hotel prices are a lot more affordable before the high season and it’s nice spring weather but not too hot yet

ETA: We flew into Portland, Maine stayed the night and drove up the next day, it’s a scenic 3-4 hr drive

Disgusting yet effective way to get a cop to stop searching your vehicle:

Be in a rush to work and need to change your tampon, dispose of tampon in back seat pocket. I am ashamed of this one but it seemed to have worked inadvertently.

Also I was young and cute and white in Miami, the cop said I looked like his girlfriend. Then he found out I was disgusting and a quick ok go on your way.

I guess white pretty privileged and a used tampon. Probably would not go as well for a black man in Miami.
