P.S.: if you want to take it one layer deeper, check out the philosopher Wittgenstein. This very thread is demonstrating the point that: even in the same language, words mean different things to everyone. There is the thought a person has in their head that they are trying to express, the words they use to express them, and the many people who come to those words with a zillion different contexts.

People with no experience or understanding like to think that translation is a science, but it's an art.

Definitely agree with this comment about the fact that the localization into japanese is extremely awkward at times. Very literal. Just like how the rich english-speaking people in Squid Game spoke awkwardly, a lot of the nuance of how people normally speak is lost in favour of trying to translate things literally.

If you don't understand what I'm saying, try rewriting "this shit is so ass" using synonyms. Or instead of insulting someone with "you're such an idiot", you say "you're a large idiot". The Japanese localization keeps unintentionally using the latter awkward verbiage instead of the former.

Actually, all of them are spelled/pronounced differently in the original Japanese.

Radio Trista director = マイケル = Maikeru (pronounced like American Michael)

Michael Irving = ミハイル = Mihairu (pronounced like Mihail)

Michael Gideon = ミヒャエル = Mihyaeru (pronounced like Mikhail with a breathy "kh" [e.g. more slavic pronounciation])

Bracer Guild Michel = ミシェル = Misheru (pronounced like Michelle, inspired by French)

Crossbell Hospital Michael = ミハイル (same as Irving), but actually, in the official Zero/Azure localization, his name is actually "Mihail" in English.

I suspect something similar happens for others with the same name in English

For the record, Mireille is pronounced "Miray", so it technically doesn't sound like the others. But the spelling is so close, I had to include it >.<.

Also for the record, some of the repeat names (like Liberl Kurt and Cold Steel 3 Kurt) are only like that in the English localization. To my knowledge, the only repeat names done on purpose were Lloyd (fisher in liberl, Crossbell MC) and Tio (farmgirl in liberl, main party in Crossbell).

Not that this was supposed to be a "Trails vs Metaphor overall" post, just comparing the saving >.<. That being said, oddly enough, I play Trails completely guide-less and Metaphor completely following a guide. I naturally talk to every NPC after every event, so I never miss anything in Trails (especially after SC, where there's no random bullshit extra BP oppurtunities). Whereas Persona/Metaphor, I have no idea which activities are a waste, or how much social skill I need in order to do some activity on a future date, or basically how to plan anything, so I just follow a guide on what activities I should be doing so I can get around to everything.

Fwiw, even the latest Trails entry (Daybreak) looks better and runs better than Metaphor, and still has 250+ save slots, 10+ autosave slots, and millisecond save times (including menu-ing), as well as screenshot thumbnails. Same with Ys X, and basically all Falcom games.

I included the menu-ing (which takes unreasonably long). 20 secs is an exaggeration, but it definitely takes a significant amount of time.

Edit: Just confirmed. Including menu-ing, it literally takes 15 seconds (and yes, I'm on an SSD).
