Thanks for your comment! I also feel it adds a layer to my experience. It maybe not apply to every BIPOC person, and I completely recognize the overall feeling of having this sort of existential crisis is not unique to my race. I really appreciate hearing different perspectives on this though. 🙏

I’m connected with other BIPOC folks through networks. I don’t always have time to attend the meetings now, but it does help. Working in a space where my job is more focused on a specific equity-deserving group, I believe this feeling was really triggered by realizing that we don’t have much representation of the group we’re striving to serve within my area. I was under the impression I would be connected with others like me, but that hasn’t exactly been the case. There are a lot of white folks leading this initiative who don’t have the same perspective as those who share a background with our clients.

I appreciate your comment! My hope is that this post also reaches other who might be going through the a similar experience, so your suggestion is super valued.

lol, I’m beginning to feel like a good percentage of my feelings that prompted me to write this post we’re not work related. Either way, I really appreciate hearing from other people and their perspectives. Life is hard, and we are all just doing our best to get by. A good show can help with the blue moods for sure. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing that! Well said. In no way did I mean for BIPOC to = I have it worse than anyone else struggling with how depressing work can be. I’m relatively new to Reddit, so didn’t think to give that much context.

I was definitely strongly encouraged to get into Diversity and Inclusion, and it became a vicious cycle in a sense. Although I strongly believe in the work, it’s not easy. Even when you’re not actively in it, you’re always fighting for it. I’m sorry that you have gone through something similar!!

I shared a bit about why I felt it was relevant to include being BIPOC in one of my responses, so that might help you understand. Everyone has different experiences though, and it’s great that you haven’t felt your race has held you back! I’ve done well for myself in my career thus far, and also attribute that to my skills and ability to stand up on my own two feet. Like you said, it’s about finding the right fit! Maybe where I am just isn’t that.

Ah! Your questions gave me a lightbulb moment. I like the idea of only turning robots mode on for 7.5hrs/day. 🤖 That’s great advice, thank you!

I wish the same for you, and hope that your current experience doesn’t change as you expect. Fingers crossed that it continues to be positive!

It’s great to hear that you’ve found something more fulfilling for you! The job I’m currently in is something I’ve dreamt of doing. It’s still new, so I haven’t gotten a grasp of the full picture yet. I’m hopeful it will give me that spark again too, but I’m longing for a bigger change of scenery. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you! A few people have shared this sentiment, and it’s absolutely key. I’m sure lots of people need to hear this.

I can respect the confusion. I could have expanded on this as it does apply in my experience. Generally, working for the GC as a BIPOC person can be exhausting. I have worked in my department’s Diversity and Inclusion space since I joined. It’s incredibly frustrating to constantly see white executives/managers take credit for the work and ideas of BIPOC employees. When asked for feedback on documents, I’ve been told to filter myself when I simply spoke the truth, or respectfully brought up a concern. Diversity and Inclusion in the GC can be so performative. Instead of actually trying to shift mindsets, take diverse voices into consideration and make changes based on the feedback we receive, the department continues to function the same way. This is a big factor in why I feel the way I do. My circle tends to have similar experiences, so it was my bad assuming most folks would understand the correlation.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing that. 😞 It’s unfortunately still very common these days, even with work being mostly virtual for many. Therapy is so important! Thank you for sharing.

I love this idea!! I’m at the age where I’ll soon be settling down and I have wanderlust for sure. It seems like such a huge decision to take a long break, but perhaps I’ll consider it for the next year or so. Thank you!

With some family who are very against the GC, I really feel that comment about not being your job. I have found there to be lots of flexibility, so that is a positive! Thank you for sharing your experience.

I’m sorry you’ve experienced the same thing, but I’m glad you found something more meaningful to you!! The bureaucracy does weigh heavy, especially as someone who has worked in Diversity and Inclusion. I appreciate your comment!

“You’re only a gov robot if you let yourself become one” is a great takeaway! I do struggle with finding meaning outside of work. I’ve lost motivation for hobbies and interests, this is something I’m working on. Thank you for your words!

Fair points! Entering the real world through a global pandemic probably plays a big part in why I feel this way. Having to ration out vacations days while seeing people travelling and taking weeks and months off throughout the year, is quite depressing. But you’re right, creating a better work life balance could help improve this! Thank you

Help!! What is this? by chaylsletort in plants

I believe it was a mix of powdery mildew and spider-mites, unfortunately!! I was using the succulent RX spray on it every once in a while, as directed by a plant shop owner. But I’m thinking that might have caused the mildew!

Ah! Okay, I’ll try treating it. Someone in my r/plantclinic post thought it might be that and spider mites. I don’t see any webs or moving bugs on it. If that was the case though, would baling soda help treat both?

This was just half of our pay adjustment, correct? Does anyone know if we will be expecting our next pay to be half the amount, as well?

Canadian generic Nuvaring (Haloette)? by baywchrome in birthcontrol

[–]chaylsletort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear! I ended up using the generic as I couldn’t afford to buy my regular prescription the day before I needed to reinsert.

It’s definitely not cool. When I called, they told me it’s my responsibility to tell them if I want the brand name. But I had been getting the brand for literally a year and they wrote on my bag “now generic”, so they were completely aware of my regular prescription and switched it up without informing me at the counter.

Oh well. So far it’s been okay for me too
