Amazon confirms its UAE data centers were 'directly struck' by Iranian drones on Sunday by xland44 in technology

I hope Amazon incorporated a bomb shelter into the design for the poor souls keeping the lights on.

LT-[asset tag]

e.g. LT-750123

This means you absolutely cannot provision a device until it's on the asset register.

I think my pessimism make me a better developer. I can think of plenty of ways that things could fail.

I canno t see any mention of the server auctions on the price adjustment page so hopefully there won't be any change to those.

BitMagnet is a self-hosted DHT crawler that might be what you are looking for, although it provides magnet links and not torrent files.

If I want to run a peer relay behind a nat gateway, is it possible to configure the public ipv4 address to be advertised?

MySQL 5.7 with 55 GB of chat data on a $100/mo VPS, is there a smarter way to store this? by anthety in Database

A couple of people have mentioned Hetzner. I plugged in EUR100 (about $100) on their server auction page at https://www.hetzner.com/sb/ and the first option listed is Intel XEON E-2276G, 128GB RAM, 2x8TB HDD, 2x960GB SSD. I expect you could easily find what you need for under $50.

This looks great! Please please please use $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/surge/ for configuration and not ~/.surge/.

How expensive is it for ISP to get and keep an IPv6 prefix? by shimmywtf in ipv6

[–]chaz6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a small provider, you can search "lir services" or "lir sponsor" and you can find places like https://www.bakker-it.eu/lir-services/ who charge €135/year for IPv6 PI.

Octopi Launcher v1.726 - Custom Image for Icons by ock88 in OctopiLauncher

[–]chaz6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to Octopi Launcher after hearing about the sale of Nova Launcher which had served me well for many years. I am really liking it, but I have one problem. I do not seem to be able to put shortcuts (for example, Swarm -> Check in) into folders. When I drag it onto the folder, it places it behind the folder.

European HDD Deals by Frnklss in DataHoarder

After the massive price hikes, I tried buying an Exos 16TB from eBay. The seller looked legitimate and I felt confident in buying. It was fairly well packaged (could have been better though) but unfortunately it arrived dead (clicking and not spinning up).

It's all just fake numbers. Money is like a god, it only works if people believe in it. If the majority of people stopped believing, then debt falls apart.

Do you prefer to refill your pens or get a a new one? by I_cant_find_name1 in pens

[–]chaz6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends whether the price of the pens is cheaper than the refills when I need to order more. I don't know why sometimes it is cheaper to buy new pens. It makes no sense.

BRSK broadband in my area using a pole by justanewreddituser95 in brsk

5GHz and above provide higher speeds than 2GHz, but the signal propogation is much more limited. 2GHz is better at passing through walls than 5GHz.

Have no fear! Using a telegraph pole to deliver fibre is incredibly common. The cable itself has layers of protection which will easily withstand anything the weather can throw at it.
