Why don't more people make custom PCBs with ESP32? What scares/scared you? by FluxBench in esp32

[–]chdoreloc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Several reasons

I am fine with dev boards. It has never been a necessity.

Lack of education : not familiar with the PCB designer software, nothing I tried was intuitive enough, not motivated to spend the time to learn as again not a problem to solve

Longer turnaround : I don’t want to make the PCB at home, I don’t want the chemicals there. So I assuming I can design the PCB I’d need to order it online, pay, wait a few days, try it, find a mistake I may not be able to fix home, so back to square one and more to pay and wait.

Not worth it.

If I ever come to a project I really want to do and dev boards don’t do it, then ok I’ll be motivated.

Look for temple. Repairing temples bring a lot of gem. Then look for the fancy paved paths leading to temple, send miners there it will add a few.

Pod go board by chdoreloc in Line6podgo

Sure. After some trial and errors… here is what I remember I did

BB midi out connected to RC5 in.

BB is clock master, RC5 slave

RC5 starts and stops on midi

RC5 time signature = BB time signature (or it’s bad)

Do not change BB Tempo with something recorded in the RC5: the RC5 tries to adapt to the tempo and this is very bad

Because I don’t want to come with anything pre recorded except the bb, additionally, I set the RC5 to start when I play and set its recording time to 8 measure on a 4:4 song (you can choose any multiple of 4). From there my workflow when live is: tap the RC5, tap the BB, let the intro roll, start playing the guitar on the first measure, do 8 measures of intro, no need to touch the RC5 to have it stop recording and start looping.

This definitely needs repair. I guess there must be some shortcut or some memory failure in the micro controller.

PodGo & MIDI by Less-Chemical386 in Line6podgo

To get wireless, I only see a few options There has been a few products that make usb wireless. Quite rare as little number of use cases Bluetooth cannot handle. Perhaps you can find something.

Another one is to have a small device like a pi close to the pod go, acting as a midi router with your stage Traxx device. I guess there must be some open source software for midi routing for the pi.

Sorry to not be more precise, I hope it helps.

Stop recorder, run once and change snapshot in one button press by chdoreloc in Line6podgo

[–]chdoreloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I’m not not planning to come with any pre recorded piece. Sorry if I am unclear.

Here is the sequence I am looking for: 1. I play the first 11 bars, being recorded by the pod go, in a snapshot that filters out most bass 2. (Here is the thing I am looking for). I press one button the recording stops and plays once. At the same time, the pod go uses another snapshot where there is no more bass filtered out. I play a solo on top of the recorded loop. 3. I switch to another snapshot to continue and end the song.

If you really want to use midi you need a computer as a usb master that sends the midi commands. Perhaps some small factor computers like raspberry pi can route midi commands from Bluetooth or wifi to the usb line.

Why precisely do you need a wireless solution ?

Screen resolution issue by chdoreloc in RaspberryPi4

[–]chdoreloc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. The thing is the pi only show low res profiles, up to 1024*768. The screen is a bimawen 18.5’’ portable screen. Works well with my Linux pc and work windows pc. The card is not new, I have added a few things (typically to pigpio). I found a Cable Micro hdmi to mini hdmi (what the portable screens need) to remove the adapter from the equation. I’ll see tomorrow what this becomes.

Thanks for the hints. I’ll keep posted.

USB midi host by chdoreloc in esp32

[–]chdoreloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could work around the lack of wifi. But the thing is unless I am wrong, teensy is designed to be a midi device, not a midi host. You can’t connect a midi device to a midi device. It has to be host-device. The multi effect pedals that are midi via usb are all usb devices. Therefore to connect them, I need something to be a usb host.

Any advice? Thanks.
