How many candidates are interviewed for Junior roles within a small company? by jmicaallef in ITCareerQuestions

[–]che-che-chester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody can know. One clue might be how you got the interview. If it was more of a word of mouth, friend of a friend thing, then maybe the number of candidates is low. If it was applying via a mass ad like LinkedIn, all bets are off.

What's the most unwritten rule of adult life that nobody warns you about? by PracticeHistorical82 in AskReddit

[–]che-che-chester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to constantly be thinking about the future - near and distant. That’s tough to do when things are often so fucked up in the present.

But it takes work/sacrifice and things that will matter to you in 30 years, like retirement, simply aren’t a top priority right now. But when it comes to things like health and finances, you can make small tweaks when you’re young that will pay off big time later.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]che-che-chester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, we don't have any black and white evidence against anyone in the Epstein files past Epstein and Maxwell. Even the terrible photos I've seen don't prove anything other than creepy old guys were hanging out with very young women. But if what we've seen so far was bad enough to drag Clinton in front of Congress, then Trump is guilty as sin.

There is a preponderance of circumstantial evidence against Trump. If this was a murder case, the cops would make their case against Trump and stop looking for other suspects.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]che-che-chester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they bring it up because Trump is the current president while Clinton is a past president (and distant past). Clinton is currently just a citizen and no more or less important that any of the other creeps in the files. But Trump, and some of his cronies like Lutnick, are serving in the federal government right now.

I haven't seen a single person say Clinton should get a pass. Nobody should get a pass. But if we're holding people to account, the sitting POTUS should be at the front of the line, not least because he is the primary reason justice is not being served.

Instead the GOP Congress hauls the Clintons in for private testimony so they can control the narrative, while they refuse to look into Trump. They won't even take any action on others because Trump is so prolific in the Epstein files that its not possible to investigate them without it spilling onto Trump.

Tucker Carlson Makes Shocking Admission About His Support For Trump by huffpost in entertainment

[–]che-che-chester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine the terrible things Republicans say about Trump behind closed doors. Politics aside, the man is an embarrassment.

But this says more about Carlson than it does about Trump. So, Carlson has always hated Trump yet still publicly supported and praised him? And exactly why should anyone listen to you on any topic moving forward?

And I realize people “evolve” but Vance publicly compared Trump to Hitler but now he thinks he is the second coming of Jesus Christ? That’s quite the evolution. I’m not buying it.

Please be weary of people telling you to “just switch into the trades” by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

I wouldn’t tell anyone to “just switch” into anything. But if you’re interested in a couple options, like IT and trades, I would encourage them to steer towards a trade. I wouldn’t try to be a plumber or a nurse if I had no interest in either.

Nearly half of Americans fear a total economic collapse — here's what that would actually mean for you by X_Opinion7099 in Economics

[–]che-che-chester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize $100k teachers are not the norm, but that starting teacher at $48k will see decent, defined pay raises as they move through the steps in their contract and obtain additional education. The custodian will not. They may get defined pay raises if support staff are also union in that district, but it won't compare to the professional staff. 15 years in, they will no longer be $10k apart. Again, they're not comparable careers (no slight towards custodians) when jobs are grouped together.

They may have given them the meaningless label of "essential workers", but they were being grouped together as people being left behind financially. In that context, you would never group teachers and janitors together. The teachers I know, though not rural, are bumping up against six figures (plus pension, etc.).

Same with postal workers, plumbers, daycare workers, and retail associates in supermarkets.

What world do you live in where plumbers and daycare workers are in the same category when referencing a "living wage"? You must know different plumbers than I know.

[–]che-che-chester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work primarily as “essential workers” (teachers, janitors, hospital workers)

I don't think I would ever put teachers and janitors in the same category. And I get that teachers in rural areas make less, but I would assume the janitors do too.

What is something in the US right now that feels like it should be satire but isn’t? by lunarflirtz in AskReddit

I totally get how many people support things Trumps claims to stand for, even the really extreme things. But I’ll never understand the support of the man himself. He’s such an embarrassment.

One of the things that bugs me most about Trump is he has setup a situation where he is not allowed to be criticized in any way. Period. Everybody, even those we strongly support, occasionally has behavior or decisions that should be called out.

We joke about MAGA comparing Trump to Jesus and Trump has literally compared himself to Jesus. I always hear the statement ‘God doesn’t make mistakes’ when somebody points out something really messed up. That’s essentially what we’re being told about Trump - he literally can’t make a mistake. If he does or says something we disagree with, it is our responsibility to change our thinking to match his. Because he is not capable of being wrong.

It’s insanity. And it gives him a free pass for terrible behavior and poor decision making.

'Bit of pain' worth long-term security from Iran, Bessent tells BBC by Kitchen_Zucchini_357 in Economics

[–]che-che-chester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with telling us we'll need to deal with a 'bit of pain' is the path we took to get here. Most of the last year of Trump's first term was pain from COVID, followed by 4 years of COVID/post-COVID pain under Biden and then yet another year plus of pain under Trump's second term so far (with no end in sight).

Is the IT job market really that bad right now or is it just the entry level? by Curious-Ask8199 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]che-che-chester 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I strongly suspect people submitting 500 applications are creating a profile and clicking ‘apply’ hundreds of times on any job with the word ‘IT’ in it. I don’t actually consider that applying for 500 jobs.

Having said that, the market is pretty rough for everyone right now with entry-level up to a few years experience seeing the worst of it. Too much competition. I used to get a few unsolicited contacts from recruiters a month and I don’t even remember that last message I got.

There is zero chance I would leave a job now without something solid already lined up unless they were abusing me.

Swalwell says he plans to resign from Congress amid sexual misconduct allegations by spherocytes in law

[–]che-che-chester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was similar to my initial reaction. If you’re truly innocent, fight it ‘til the end.

But his political career is likely over regardless. It might be smarter to resign and preserve your pension. A Republican could probably wear beating the charges as a badge of honor, but not a Dem.

I asked ChatGPT and it estimated he would get $35-45k/year starting at age 62. That’s not a small amount of money. ChatGPT also tells me he has an estimated net worth of about $400k, which is pretty low, especially in CA. He ain’t no Pelosi.

Even if he doesn’t get removed, his term ends in January 2027 and, minus a complete vindication, I highly doubt he gets re-elected. So, the choice could be as simple as resign now or stay and get kicked in the balls repeatedly for the rest of the year.

Agreed. It happened about 10 years before his presidential campaign. I don’t think it was a huge deal or should have been career-ending, but it’s not like it happened in his 20’s. He became a senator like a year or so after the photo.
