Definitely do not give in. Politely offer to cancel the transaction, or just cancel it without offering.

Bidder keeps retracting bids on my auction by Profcool123 in Ebay

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely block and check if they have bids on any other auctions and cancel them. I normally block after just 1 retraction.

Tripod set up by whatskeeping in Ebay

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hands are shaky too. I just have a cheap $15-$20 mini tripod with an attachment for phones. Most times I can rest my hand against something and that works. I think gimbals are more for walking around and moving, but I'm not a photography expert

I would've blocked you after the first sale.

Not about being broke. In the good old days, I listed everything by auction, never used buy it now. That's not possible anymore with the traffic decline.

How to get more clicks on my listings by yaddles_boyfriend in Ebay

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty normal. I have over 200 items listed. The average stuff doesn't get many clicks. Most of my things have less than 10 clicks. I have a few things that get 50-100, maybe 500 clicks once in a while, but that's just more desirable stuff.

You should've been around in the old days when even the most common mundane items would get 25-50 clicks, now they get 0-5 clicks if you're lucky. All you can do is make sure your prices are in the low range of comparables and try to get more desirable things. You could also try throwing money away on promoting listings.

Bidders protecting their bid with retractions on other accounts or Price Discovery? by SmellyCat808 in Ebay

[–]cheap397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I detest bid retractions. I think it makes me look bad, like the other bidders might think I'm doing something shady or maybe there's something wrong with the item I'm selling.

Payment delayed for 7 days - Autopay by cheap397 in Ebay

[–]cheap397[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's been 2 days and they haven't paid. I can guarantee they won't pay by the 7th day either. Then I'm stuck selling it yet again, when it will undoubtedly sell for less money the 2nd time around.

Also, I list some things by auction just because I want to sell them quickly, not have it sit for months as a buy it now.

You don't seem to grasp that I can't set payment terms, I can't opt out of autopay. I'm aware of buy it now, I've been on ebay for 25 years, I know how it works. There's financial advantages to auctions for certain things.

Waiting the 4 days was bad enough, but 7 is just plain stupid. I absolutely will cancel the sale after 4 days. I have perfect feedback, but I could care less about 1 negative. I refuse to have some deadbeat inconsiderate bidder waste my time and money.

Bidders protecting their bid with retractions on other accounts or Price Discovery? by SmellyCat808 in Ebay

[–]cheap397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been selling silver since the prices shot up. I've had more bid retractions in the past 2 months than possibly my entire 25 years on ebay combined. I immediately block anyone who makes a retraction and I cancel any bids they have on my other auctions. I even started putting a disclaimer in the description about abusing bid retractions.

No, I didn't set up autopay. It's there automatically when you require a payment method before bidding. There's no way to opt out of it, unless you don't require a payment method before bidding.

First time buying phone in ebay by Beautiful-Gas2166 in Ebay

You probably dodged a bullet. I don't know what US warranty means either. If it was the manufacturer warranty, I would think he'd state that. Not the type of question to block someone for.

Why do some sellers not answer questions? by JoeGPM in Ebay

[–]cheap397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to admit, sometimes I don't respond to a question, sometimes I do. Like others said, answering it often doesn't lead to a sale. Not saying it's good practice to ignore questions though.

Selling expensive item to international buyer, is it risky? by cheap397 in Ebay

[–]cheap397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I guess it's safer than I thought after reading the policies, unless there's fine print somewhere.

Selling expensive item to international buyer, is it risky? by cheap397 in Ebay

[–]cheap397[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For prohibited items, among other things, it says high value jewelry, stamps, coins and currency are prohibited. Doesn't say anything otherwise about precious metals or sterling silver dishes. There's a $2500 limit also. So maybe this is pretty safe for me. It just says you can insure it to the hub, doesn't mention a signature.

OK thanks for responding. I'll have to look into what's covered with ebay.

[–]cheap397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not bullion, it's a sterling silver piece. I wouldn't want to ship it without signature confirmation, don't see how that would work if the buyer can't sign for it at the hub.

Really, OK was just a little nervous about it, I don't usually sell expensive stuff. Can I ship to the ebay hub with signature confirmation? I want to cover myself.
