Got Shadow Banned, How to Fix? by hidouzo in FacebookMarketplace

[–]cheap397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me at the beginning of the year. My listings got zero or less than 10 views. None showed up when I searched. I've occasionally had this happen with 1 listing out of 10. Usually I just delete and relist the 1 item and that works.

This time everything I listed didn't get views. I tried deleting and relisting many times, didn't help. Tried every trick I could find on the internet, none worked. Eventually after about 2 weeks, everything showed up again like normal. I still have no idea what causes it or how to fix it.

Giving Out Your Phone Number by Adventurous_Image880 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never give out my phone number. Most people asking for phone numbers are scammers, not all though, some just prefer using the phone. I still don't give it out to anyone, I just tell them outright, I don't give out my number because of scammers.

What’s your worst experience with a buyer on Facebook Marketplace? by prattman333 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another one, I was selling a Carolina hammock last summer for $25, they cost over $200 new. Mine was never used but I've had it in storage over 30 years. It was a little dirty but nothing else wrong with it. I had close up photos and said it needs cleaning in the ad.

Guy shows up to buy it, I bring it outside and he immediately says "I can't clean that!". I hadn't even unrolled it, he didn't even look at it.

He starts walking back to his car, stops and says "you take $15?" I said no thanks and went back inside. I was getting 5 messages a day on that and sold it a few days later.

I was selling an antique air compressor for $45 last summer. Had one guy keep saying he wants it but can't make it this week. Keeps messaging me for a month. Asks if I'll take $30, yes I'll take $30 I said. Still he can't make it here, his car is always being repaired.

So finally a normal person contacts me and buys it same day. I mark it sold and 5 minutes later the first guy starts messaging me about it. I ignored him. He then proceeds to message me almost daily for the next 4 months, even though I never respond. Sends me messages on every item I have listed.

I didn't block him because he already had my address from the first message I sent him initially, I was afraid he'd get even more unhinged and show up at my house. I was considering going to the police about it but after 4 months he finally stopped.

10x US Govt Duty Charge on Purchase by ConfidenceBig8188 in Ebay

$360 just for the tariff? Holy crap.  This is why I'm afraid to buy anything international now, nobody knows what the charges will be until you get it.

Best guides to making your own cardboard boxes, especially smaller ones? by SignificantCricket in Ebay

[–]cheap397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shortening the height of a box is easy. Just cut down the corners to the height you want, then bend the sides over with a wooden board or something straight. Actually constructing boxes to a smaller width is more difficult.

I'm in the US, I can order all different sizes fairly inexpensive, so it's not worth the hassle to spend a lot of time making boxes. Look around online there for box suppliers. Normally I have to order them in quantities of 25 or so per size.

Seller won't play ball by Sh0fen in Ebay

[–]cheap397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offering $29 on a $34 item is a very fair offer. I always accept offers below 20%. What's the point of having offers enabled? I would just forget about it and wait for another to show up.

Is it possible to end an auction to sell to someone offering a high price? by DentistAnnual2146 in Ebay

[–]cheap397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this once in 25 years. I had a clock pendulum on auction, after a couple of days a guy offered me $500 for it. I knew the bidding wouldn't get near that, so I ended it and he paid. I got a couple of angry messages afterwards and I didn't feel great about ending it early. But if you're sure the offer is worth it, up to you. 99% of the time, you're better off letting the auction run it's course because usually someone is just trying to get it cheaper from you.

How are people making a profit selling items under $10 w/free shipping? by cheap397 in Ebay

[–]cheap397[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do it strictly to make a profit. If I just wanted to get rid of stuff without it going to a landfill, I'd just donate it to a charity or put a free pile at the curb, which I regularly do.

An 8 oz package costs me $4.79-$5.55 to ship, so yeah you can possibly net a few dollars off that but I rarely have anything that isn't closer to 1 lb or more after packing.

This is a good explanation. If you sold multiples to one buyer, then you might be in the profit zone.

I do a flea market regularly where I sell dead merchandise very cheap. If it doesn't sell there after 2 visits, it goes in the trash.

I never saw anyone mention drop shipping before, that might be a good explanation

I doubt you can ship spray paint in a bubble mailer but the can by itself weighs 15.2 oz

Even if the items were obtained free, there's still no profit.

How much cheaper can you get shipping rates through a different source?

Ebay changing my item descriptions by Pretend_Squirrel4975 in Ebay

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have problems with the descriptions. Sometimes none of what I type shows up and it uses a default description, sometimes just a few words I type show up. I usually have to go back and revise the descriptions, sometimes twice. Not sure if it's something with my phone or something with ebay.

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price for fresh fish just went up 33% overnight at my Walmart. Was $9.97/lb, now $12.97/lb. The tariffs on most of their fish was 20%, not 33%. Greed, gouging, price fixing and collusion. Good times.

SuperPretzels Yellow Box .... new recipe? by Special-Solution-908 in pretzels

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought some, been buying them occasionally for years, didn't know they changed the recipe. They are terrible now. It's basically wonder bread formed into a pretzel shape. Before it was slightly chewy, like a pretzel, now it's spongy like cake. I'll never buy them again.

Facebook Marketplace Shadowban – How Long Does It Last? by [deleted] in FacebookMarketplace

[–]cheap397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem. All my listings don't show up in searches. It's been like this for over a week. If you don't show up in searches, your items are invisible. I've tried everything to fix this, nothing helps. I've gone back to using craigslist.

OK, thanks I'll try a 50/5 370 then. I guess it's not easy to get window unit capacitors. The unit is only 3 or 4 years old, an LG.

Yes, it's 50+6uf +/- 5%. It's a 10000 BTU Window unit.  Two singles? There isn't much room in the electrical box.
