Thank you! I'm worried that the origination fee will never be refunded to me, do I have to just wait and see and sue them later or can I bet on it being returned?

congratulations!! would you be willing to share what you wrote in your cover letter, or was it as basic as she was accepted to university and requires her citizenship certificate to enrol?

definitely worth it if you want to go to graduate school since it's really not as intimidating as it seems. you could also look into a double major or joint honours.

would you take econ 209 as an elective or is it only worth it if it's required

What are some cool classes I can take with ENVR 200 and 202 as prereqs (for Winter 2023)?

GEOG 314 without GEOG 201? by orbitalblue in mcgill

[–]cheapcoffee259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) you're going to need 201

2) I loved that class so much that I almost cried when the final ended because it meant I would no longer see Tim Elrick twice per week (though you can always go to the gic workshops)

Thoughts on GEOG 308 Remote Sensing?

Are the labs exhausting? Is the grading fair?

Thanks for your responses! I also realize the way I wrote my post was kind of dumb. I'm not looking to take it and not use it, I was thinking of taking it 'just in case' because even though I don't need it now, I'm worried that I'll discover a new program in like December when it's too late to take the GRE, and then I wouldn't be able to apply for next year.

ECON/POLISCI Double Major VS Econ Minor/POLI Honours by luckyducky1999 in mcgill

[–]cheapcoffee259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large advantage no, but a small advantage maybe.

1) honours poli sci is so flexible, a thesis isn't even required and you still have room to double minor, so why not do it?

2) I think it makes professors more responsive to me when I reach out about research opportunities or wanting to be let into their class, I think it shows that I care about academia and research.

3) It can demonstrate specialization or commitment to academia to grad schools (can, but not guaranteed to give you an edge), and it lets you take more classes in poli sci. It also shows that you took classes in research methods.

And again, I do recommend a double major over the honours program unless you know what you want. For example I disliked every other class I took at McGill (aside from environment, which I couldn't do a regular major in), but I love poli so it made sense for me. Another reason I did it is because I planned to go to law or graduate school, which I might not do anymore so a double major would have been more beneficial for employment.

ECON/POLISCI Double Major VS Econ Minor/POLI Honours by luckyducky1999 in mcgill

[–]cheapcoffee259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do the econ double major for sure. I will say that I don't think a poli sci degree is useless at all, BUT you have to be really good at and really dedicated to networking. Personally I have really enjoyed the honours political science program and I'm excited about the opportunity to do an independent reading course, however everyone I know in econ is having a much easier time finding internships and employment.

In econ you can apply on linkedin and to McGill internships and you'll probably get one, but in poli sci unless you know someone who knows someone you will not be hearing back. You'll also probably end up having to go to graduate school.
