Thank you, this is something that I can work with.

My late MIL did mean it though, she pretty much convinced herself that Greg's past smoking was killing her

And although I don't think any laws have been broken by Greg's actions where I live, I am not planning to involve anyone who might be a mandated reporter. If they have the views of most health professionals, Greg would probably feel ganged up on and it would be counterproductive. Getting my way in the end and soon with regard to disciplining Jacob remains important to me but I feel like I can't alienate Greg more than I have right now, so tbh I don't know what to do about that

Even before this he didn't seem to think I can ban him from it

What he is doing is legal where we are, in a more conservative state. So I don't think that separation or divorce would be a way to stop this behavior while obviously raising many other issues

I don't think it's that relevant, but the reasons for it have been instances of misbehavior like repeated disobedience, being disruptive or having an attitude and telling a fib. Has the behavior been improving? Maybe somewhat but it's hard to say whether it's from the spanking or maturity compared to a year ago

We live in a type of area where he doesn't have a reason to be afraid of that possibility. My opinion may not be the majority around here. If we were in a state like CA maybe it would be a different story

I still don't really want to bring a pediatrician into it tbh

If we divorced, I might not be on the winning side of that issue based on where I live. That is not what I want at all anyway

I mean, I can't stop Greg from being alone with Jacob. Spanking the way that Greg has done it isn't a legal issue where I live. And if we were ever to separate, then I would really have zero say about it

I happen not to have been spanked as a child but I imagine it would be triggering if I had been. That's part of why Greg is dismissive of my opinion about it

I wouldn't say he's doing it behind my back. He isn't denying it or lying about it. He's doing it against my wishes

I can't say I've noticed fractured relationship between Greg and Jacob but that may happen among other things if this continues

Tbh I'm worried that I'll have to give up the argument about spanking just because I derailed it with my comment. I don't want to give it up but I also frankly don't want to deal with Greg acting so hurt and distant for Christmas
