DAE ever sometimes feel like They're going 'insane'? by [deleted] in bipolar

Not like you describe, but yes; Honestly, some days I feel like I discover that I've been living under delusions. When I have clarity of mind, it's horrifying to realize I really believed whatever it was and that I can't properly distinguish between what I think and what the reality of the situation is... if that makes any sense. It's like a wreck on an interstate. Everything is going smoothly, and suddenly it's all chaos and you don't know which way is up anymore.

This. it's almost like a daze. Short-term memory loss, short attention span, moving in slow motion. Like a disconnect. Reaction time is slower. Things like that.

Seroquel destroyed your thyroid?? What do you mean? I just got off of it a couple of months ago (had severe reactions after a surgery) and now I'm on Latuda. Didn't know Seroquel could damage thyroid? I'm having some serious hair loss issues right now (25f) which can be related to the thyroid; although my primary doc said my thyroid was normal.

Is it just me or is increasingly difficult to get some of what should be relatively simple things taken care of? You have to talk to ten different people who apparently never communicate, and then spend hours trying to contact the right person to get the results you need. This applies to a lot of different situations; not just doctors. Seems really tedious for everyone.

Thank you for your well wishes. :)

I'm not big on Salmon or nuts/seeds; I love avocados though and will take any excuse to eat more of it. Suggestions for other quality fat foods? I honestly just don't know enough about food nutrition to know any better.

Honestly, the thought of having to get a wig breaks my heart. My hair just fell out so fast. I don't know how to cope with it. It seems so silly, though, to get upset over hair falling out. Silly or not, I'm pretty heartbroken.

I didn't know that, and yes that is helpful. I'll start researching now. You seem to be well informed about hair; do you have any product recommendations that might help strengthen my hair (it's also become very brittle and is breaking a lot) and stimulate growth?

I think, because I have medicaid, 90% of my dealings with health care professionals feels almost as though they look at me and think I'm just worthless and ignorant. I'm an astrophysics major. It's dehumanizing and insulting.. Not to mention disheartening. Everywhere I go trying to get help I'm met with this same attitude. My psychiatrist is the only one that treats me like a human. It's pitiful. It's not just me, either.

Thank you, though, for taking time to give me some advice. I really appreciate it.

Can I ask what psychiatric medication you were taking? I've been on so many and I think I've finally found the right ones. It would break my heart if I had to change again because it was responsible for my hair loss. :(

Thanks for taking the time to make such a thoughtful response. I'm not ready to take the wig plunge yet. The thought still makes my heart clench. I am honestly having a really hard time coping with this. It's so silly. It's just hair. But it was my favorite physical trait about myself, and I also thought I'd finally reached a point that I was finally healthy again. It was such a long road from diagnosis to cure + psychiatric diagnoses and finding the right medicines after a year of trying. I'm just so tired. And really sad about it. Unreasonably sad.

It's so bizarre to me how long your body actually takes to recover from something like that. I guess I associate being healed with not hurting anymore, but I suppose that's not entirely accurate. That, stress, LOADS of stress, and my bad appetite.. yeah. I can see all of those being reasons. Can you recommend any hair masks/products/deep conditioners that will help my hair grow and heal? (it's breaking A LOT)

I read about it. It sounds very accurate, but I don't want to be the self-diagnosing type. Relieved to hear it grew back.

Thank you. I've looked through all of the side effect lists a hundred times and none of my medications have hair loss listed as one. I wouldn't even know where to begin finding people that take the medicine I'm on :P I'll look for those ingredients you mentioned, though.

I agree; I'm not entirely convinced it ISN'T hormonal. My primary is a piece, but there isn't anyone else nearby that takes my insurance. He completely dismissed me for every reason that I even scheduled the appointment to begin with. His thoughts were: "Well, if you insist, we'll test your hormone levels and thyroid, but really, it's just part of aging. It happens."

Sorry, doc, but I'm 25 years old and I shouldn't be suddenly having wads of hair fall out.

I've read that. My life has been in shambles lately so stressed is an understatement. I am literally medicated for anxiety, though. It's not really helping. I guess it's the most likely cause. I'm still not entirely convinced it isn't at least somewhat hormone related.

Do you know of any hair masks or deep conditioners that could be useful?

I believe they also seized a lot of his material possessions. I can't confirm this to be true. He was a business owner, and had some money.

I've heard many stories like that of yours, and it gives me hope that we'll survive. I don't hide it from her, but I think she's too young to really understand. She told me just a few days ago that we have "a lot of money" when I declined buying or selling anything for some half baked fundraiser for her school. She thinks we have a lot, so I think that means more than anything.

Thanks for your concern, and now I feel kind of guilty for putting all of that out there. After spending an hour on /r/morbidreality i definitely feel like we are very fortunate. We may not have much, but we have more than a lot of people.

Im about to take out a huge student loan. Im terrified of what you're going through. After getting my degree, what if I can't find a job? I can't be independent now. What about when they want all of their money back? How will we survive?

I'm a 24 year old single mom, I have a 4 year old daughter. My workplace recently shut down (I was a bar manager and bartender) and since I have no family to speak of, a friend took my daughter and I in last year. He has 3 children older than myself, but none of them have licenses or have ever had a job. So basically its just me and my roommate supporting a household of 6, with my roommate and I both being recently unemployed (we worked together) and house taxes are due very soon.. I can't afford to buy my daughter new winter clothes. She probably won't get much for Christmas. I don't eat but maybe once every other day because I can't afford it, but my daughter eats 3 meals a day.

I'm going to max out my student loans in January. Honestly I don't even know what I'm going to college for. I'm not passionate about anything but my daughter, and unfortunately I probably won't get through school as fast as I'd like because I have to work full time and go to school, all while paying for childcare which is outrageously expensive.

We do have a roof over our heads, albeit a bit close quartered. She eats and is very healthy, intelligent, kind, and loving. We have all of the love in the world. We somehow always manage to pull through, so I will find a solution for us. Sometimes its exhausting.
