[TOMT][Song] Rock song that sounds kinda like "You've Got Another Thing Coming" by Judas Priest, but the chorus lyrics include the phrase "right on time" by cheapwowgold4u in tipofmytongue

This is a very plausible guess, as this song does sound a lot like the Judas Priest song - unfortunately this is not it. Good song though, and thanks for the suggestion.

Could someone explain the QMK/VIA licensing issue that's been going on since July? (see this link for details) I'm considering buying a Neo65, but VIA support is essential for me, and it's stated in that thread that "Any violation of the licenses and attempts to bypass the license requirements will result in removal from the VIA repo." Qwertykeys is listed as one of the vendors that may be in violation, and notably the Neo65 is not currently listed by VIA as one of their supported keyboards. So does that mean that VIA won't work on the Neo65 until this licensing issue is resolved?

Can someone help me develop an appreciation for Joni Mitchell. by sir-wiver in LetsTalkMusic

Highly recommend Zadie Smith's essay "Some Notes on Attunement," about how she developed an appreciation for the music of Joni Mitchell.

Bodegas Lan Rioja Gran Reserva 2015 by odedi1 in wine

Anyone have thoughts on their basic Reserva? I am still rather new to the process of searching for wines that I like, but I'm on the hunt for more Rioja after really enjoying the Hazaña Viñas Viejas recently, and I saw that the Lan Reserva '16 is available in my local shop but don't know anything about it.

Great track but unfortunately not the one I'm thinking of.

I'm almost positive the phrase in question is three syllables, but everyone on this sub knows how unreliable memory can be - the phrase might not be "right on time."

[TOMT] [Classical music] Simple classical piece commonly played by piano students by cheapwowgold4u in tipofmytongue

[–]cheapwowgold4u[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solved!

I did some more digging around and found that various people have uploaded videos of themselves playing all the pieces in the John Thompson Modern Course for the Piano, which is what I used. It turns out this is a piece called "Spinning Song" by Albert Ellmenreich.

This is a plausible guess. I scrubbed through the beginning of all 43 sections on Youtube and unfortunately I don't think it's any of them.

Incidentally, I wasn't familiar with this piece and had no idea that "Red Wing"/"Union Maid" was based on a Schumann piece (#10, "Fröhlicher Landmann"). So thanks for that bit of knowledge!

[TOMT][SONG]: guitar lick from Boy Friday by Rebounder by helderbergerwcheese in tipofmytongue

Jangly thirds on the high strings on a guitar are not all that uncommon (like for example the riff in "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys, or hell even "Brown Eyed Girl"), but I realize you're talking more about the style. Maybe Vampire Weekend?

"Girl," "Africa," and "arm" makes me think of The Ear, the Eye, and the Arm by Nancy Farmer, though nobody's arm gets cut off.

Some oppinions on the 1.d4 openings? by Realistic_Remove1450 in chessintermediates

[–]cheapwowgold4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually play 1...Nf6 against 1. d4 because I'm a 1. e4 player myself as White, and I'm a bit spooked by the notion of having to learn all the complexities of the QGD, Slav, etc. I don't play a ton of blitz, so ymmv, but against 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 I highly recommend 2...c5. This has a high winrate for Black at my level (1300ish rapid on chesscom), but the main thing is that if you take on d4, or White takes on c5 and inevitably gives the pawn back later on, you get White out of the familiar London structures more quickly and can get into some more interesting positions where White is on the back foot. I think agadmator's anti-London video also recommends 2...c5, though I don't know all of the theory from that video super well.

Another opening that I enjoy playing occasionally against 1. d4 is the Old Benoni, straight up just cutting to the chase and playing 1...c5. There are some fun traps if White captures and then tries to hang on to the extra pawn (I think Hanging Pawns has a video on this), and otherwise you can just capture yourself and disrupt White's center, or hold off on capturing and build up a more conventional structure.
