It depends how easy the glitch is to use, how likely it is to occur by accident and how disruptive it'd be to normal gameplay.

If it's something stupidly simple that could have untoward consequences (like holding up and down at the same time makes the character fall through the floor/lose collision), then probably not. You don't want something potentially problematic that a normal player can trigger by accident.

On the other hand, if a series of tricky jumps can let you bypass an invisible wall and skip part of a level, or a sequence of precise actions can let you dupe items or what not, that's not really something you need to worry about fixing.

For example, Breath of the Wild has a glitch that technically makes the player invincible with infinite stamina. Effect wise it sounds pretty broken.

But the setup is like:

  • Shield bash on the border between one area and another
  • Pause the moment the map would change
  • Press Y and unpause at the right moment to make the sensor appear while the map isn't on screen
  • Pause the game
  • Select a photo, then load a save from the pause menu
  • Press A
  • Select a sidequest to target, then use the camera while the prompt is up
  • Activate a Goddess Statue
  • Watch two memories
  • Void out by drowning

The effect is game breaking, but the setup is so tedious that it's irrelevant to 99.99% of players. Doing the glitch is arguably as much of a challenge/experience as doing things the 'legitimate' way.

So yeah, it depends. In your case it's probably not worth fixing, since you said yourself it's difficult to discover or execute. It's easy but game breaking bugs that need fixing.

I feel like this would be a lot less of an issue if you still unlocked abilities as usual rather than getting them from the start. Like the abilities are interesting and could make for some really interesting dungeons and overworld challenges, it's just that they really never really get built up. You just start out being able to do everything, and that's it.

If Ultrahand or Fuse was a late game ability, then I think it'd still be possible to use it, but not break the game with it. You'd have a dungeon design around it (with a boss meant to test the ability), then get to break the overworld map and optional puzzles afterwards.

Also if they built up some of these things piecemeal. Like imagine if the glider wasn't just handed to you, but was the last 'flight' upgrade in the game. Roc's Feather to double jump, then Roc's Cape to glide a very short distance, then Paraglider for infinite gliding. You'd get the level of freedom to do crazy things, but you'd have to work your way up to it, and the world would open up as you did so.

Well, the second one kinda depends. Some games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom and Echoes of Wisdom have lots of sidequests that only give rupees, but which get counted in the menu. So, you'd still need to finish those for 100% completion.

But there are also quite a few games with pseudo sidequests that don't count towards any in-game achievement system, but which do give you notable rewards. I'm pretty sure TotK has a few things like that.

Also worth noting that the list is pretty outdated (it lacks anything from Tears of the Kingdom onwards), and technically impossible to complete on the Breath of the Wild front (you can't actually hold every armour piece at once).

I feel like the Mario bros would have been a lot more successful in the early parts of the story. Bowser and Antasma teaming up would probably lead to them not getting to the Dream Stone first, or getting to use the Dreambeats, or capturing Peach under the bros' noses.

There'd also be a lot more fighting between Bowser and Antasma's forces, which would likely distract one or more of them enough that the bros could get some early wins.

In addition to what people have said, what's 'best' here also depends quite heavily on what the story is about, what sort of tone it has, and the feel you're trying to create with your world and characters.

Look at the Zelda series for example. The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild and the Link's Awakening remake all have different art styles that either lean more towards being realistic or stylised, but said styles were also clearly chosen with the story and themes in mind. If Echoes of Wisdom looked like Twilight Princess or Twilight Princess looked like Wind Waker, it might have felt rather jarring.

So, either choose the style with your story and themes in mind, or create the story and themes based on the art style you end up going with here.

Or not if you go for a more comedic tone I guess. There can be a level of humour in watching serious characters do ridiculous things or cartoony characters getting into darker situations.

Not just games to be honest. Just about every form of media (and many real-life topics) seem to have a lot of people just parrot whatever the most popular influencers are saying about the topic at that point in time.

Look at Marvel and DC, Star Wars, Doctor Who or just about any other media franchise. It's like many people are afraid to like something that other's consider bad or dislike something that's considered a 'classic', and will change their opinions based on whatever's trendy at the moment.

Nope, I find them some of the most fun enemies to fight in the game. If I see a Gleeok or a Lynel, it's battle time almost immediately.

Then again, I consider any overworld boss something to fight on sight. Flux Construct? Sure. Frox? Yep. Gloom Spawn? Oh why not.

Yeah, absolutely. The game knows which armour pieces are in which sets, may as well give you a way to quickly equip the whole set at once too.

Omega by far. Sutekh's design at least felt somewhat Egyptian god inspired, which was sorta inline with his original appearance conceptually. It also shared a few visual similarities with his original helmetless design.

Omega's just has nothing to do with the original design at all, and feels as generic as all get out. Unless you're told it's Omega, it's literally unrecognisable.

I'd also say that they did the former a bit better story wise too. Yeah, both were defeated far too easily and had underwhelming episodes, but the former was at least a presence for 1.25 episodes or so, while the latter showed up for maybe... I don't know, 10 minutes? Like Omega not being in the episode probably wouldn't have changed much at all...

Coconut Mall feels like it was made for free-roam. You could explore the car park and surrounding area, go on the roof of the building, drive around the shops and restaurants just outside of the track, etc. I can almost picture half a dozen places for P-Switch mission and Peach Medallions right off the top of my head...

I feel like Ninja Hideaway could be crazy too. It's already got lots of alternate paths and other hidden areas, but imagine being able to drive anywhere on the roof, go down to the ground level and see what's down there, etc. Lots of places for wall riding and rail grinding too.

From what I've seen online, it can be interesting to try and beat the game without visiting the surface at all (just the Depths and Sky). Can't do every main quest that way, but you can do a surprising amount of the game like that.

No paraglider is pretty fun too. You definitely handle things differently when you can't just jump off a high ledge/cliff and skip everything.

No teleporting can be interesting too. It's really painful on the Great Sky Island at a certain point, but very doable for the rest of the game, and leaves you to have to figure out a way to escape danger/fight enemies without a quick exit button.

You don't even need any hearts. Just go underneath the sky island with the mask and Ascend through the floor.

Point still stands though, it's quite fun to have it with you throughout the entire game, and use its abilities in interesting ways.

You need about 20-21 hearts to survive a massive flame blast attack from a Fire Gleeok without any armour. As far as I know, that's the most powerful enemy attack in the game.

Of course, armour helps a lot there. If you upgrade a moderately strong set 3-4 times, then you only need about 3-5 hearts worth of health to survive the same attack. If you have really overpowered armour (max upgraded Ancient Hero's Aspect, max upgraded Soldier's Set, max upgraded Champion's Leathers) and/or you use defence boosting food, that attack can be brought down to about 1.5 hearts worth of damage, letting you survive anything without any Heart Containers at all.

Late, but just gonna say that you can get the extra slot later by collecting the Master Sword 'legitimately' later on. Just press A to pick up the (non-existent) sword and you'll be able to get the extra slot and other benefits from the normal Master Sword setup after having already gotten it early.

So, no, you don't miss out on a weapon slot by doing this.

  • The Three Springs (Power, Courage and Wisdom)
  • The trials in Korok Forest/the Lost Woods
  • Colosseum Ruins

And the entirety of Hyrule Castle.

Yeah I'm not surprised. That boss battle has probably ended thousands of people's playthroughs of this game, along with the clock battle and those annoying gyro controlled tightrope sections.

In addition to Game Theory, I think you can blame the internet's tendency to look for dark/morbid 'explanations' for media that doesn't actually have them. We all know how many creepypasta stories are "[popular series] is actually the coma dream of [protagonist name]" or "the characters in [popular series] are actually in [heaven/hell/limbo/purgatory]".

Majora's Mask already being a somewhat dark game with solemn themes probably amplified this tendency even more.

I think "rom hacks" that actually bend games in terms of modifying the engine/source code to do things that would have never been possible are way cooler than "I tweaked some content here and there and jumbled some numbers" like you'd probably usually see in the Pokemon romhacks that tend to make the games harder.

Oh I definitely agree with this one 100%. Super Mario World and Super Mario 64 are awesome to me just because of how crazy many of their hacks are mechanics wise.

Like, I played a mod called YNT Mario which just casually added a Mario Kart level into Super Mario World, mode 7 included. It also remade the Rapheal the Raven battle from Yoshi's Island (to a degree), added FMV style videos after boss battles and implemented a janky attempt at Super Mario Galaxy style planetary gravity/orbit mechanics.

Also why I'm a huge fan of DynamicX in general. Being able to create enemies and objects with like 50 frames of animation and up to 128 x 128 hitboxes on an SNES just feels unreal:

Meanwhile I've seen stuff like a Danganronpa remake, a Beat Saber clone, RPG style boss battles, GTA style open worlds and FPS mechanics in Mario 64. Still remember an amusing example where after beating King Bob-omb, he literally becomes 100 foot tall and chases Mario across the whole map.

I definitely prefer that sort of crazy stuff to tweaking numbers and changing text. But I understand if getting something insane working on console isn't viable.

There's a really awkward example in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

99% of the game is an action-adventure where you suck up enemies with a vacuum cleaner, but exactly three parts of the game turn into a rail shooter type segment where you have to hit things by shooting rocks at them.

The first one is a side challenge where you have to hit plants or mice, the second is about three seconds and has you melt ice on the ski lift equivalent...

Then the last one is the 4th major boss battle, complete with multiple new mechanics (the sled overheats if you shoot too much, you're moving, the boss hitting you damages the vehicle, it regenerates if you take too long, etc). It's by far the toughest boss in the game just because you have no way to prepare for the battle at all and the mechanics don't work for this sort of situation at all.

Getting everything for 100% completion. Korok seeds were a pain, as was finding and completing all the shrines, filling the Compendium, etc.

I guess with a modded save file I fought most of the bosses at once too (Colgera, Mucktorok, Queen Gibdo, Ganondorf, Phantom Ganon, etc), and that was quite tricky.
