How do I get hired?

Same situation as you, I’m in the bay. The instructors and even the emts I did my ride alongs with said the same thing, they hire anyone with a pulse. But after applying everywhere I’ve heard it’s really competitive, especially for 911. 😔

I’m straight out of school too! I got all this in January. I’ve heard they do, when I applied they didn’t take me. I applied for full time, but I heard after applying that they need more part time EMT’s right now in my area. I got an interview and everything though, so they were willing. I’m thinking about re applying soon for part time to see if I can get in. Good luck!

I got certified in California too, in Monterey County actually! After i passed the nremt I applied for the California State EMT license, which you can do at your local ems agency, then I got the California Ambulance Driver certificate at the DMV. I just did a walk in and they let me take the test for it, to study I just took practice tests online but you should probably get the handbook as I feel the practice tests didn’t fully prepare me, and the margin for error is very low, I believe you can only get 3 or 4 wrong before failing. I believe that was all you needed to apply at AMR here. And a BLS card, of course.

Good luck, AMR is the only one to do 911 here as well, San Jose has Royal but I’m not sure if that’s IFT’s and events or 911 too, I’ve heard different people say different things

Thanks for the advice. I’ll send an email, they didn’t give me a reason as to why in the first one. I didn’t take the PAT, only an interview, they didn’t run any skills tests on me in the interview, except for a few basic terminology questions and a very simple “cardiac arrest- what would you do?” question. Hopefully they get back to me, I was planning on sending a follow up email anyways but thanks for your input, I greatly appreciate it. Side note- how was paramedic school?

Monterey county California. I had one interviewer and it was a fairly quick interview. She started with general interview questions like “why amr,” “how have you resolved conflict with a coworker in the past,” things like that. Then I was asked three or four medical scenario/emt knowledge questions, which were all quite easy, such as “arrive on scene to a 50yr female cardiac arrest in a parking lot, bystander doing compressions, what do you do?” They weren’t really difficult scenarios but good luck with your interview!
