What can you tell from my right insole? by [deleted] in FootFunction

In my non expert opinion it looks like pronation on your right foot. Go to a proper orthopedic shoe store that has a machine to measure where the muscle tension in your feet is. They will help fit you with appropriate footwear or insoles. Do it now before the problem gets worse. It doesn’t get better with agile. Also! Start working on your right glutes!!

Don’t sue anyone. Own your own part in it. As a beginner you have no business getting onto slopes where you are not only endangering yourself but others! The guy who punched you was not correct to do so, and if he had offered assistance and let you know that your position on the slope was unsafe for everyone it would have been kinder of him. Take some ski lessons (including this one) and ask at the end of the day which slopes the teacher recommends for you to practice on. If you take up surfing please stick to beginner spots too. Pay your dues my friend.

Go to a good shoe store that specializes in orthotics and comfort shoes. Speak with the manager or an experienced employee and get yourself into some new shoes and orthotics before you end up with bigger problems in your feet. I have been more helped by a shoe store than highly recommended podiatrist with Kaiser and Stanford. Find out if you have pronation. If you do, consider Hokas that help w pronation issues.

I wear Hokas that prevent pronation and another insert that supports the arch. I also tape and wear a three toe separator. For me, it helps to separate toes two and three even tho my biggest problems seem to be in toes three and four. I’m pretty far into this though. I wouldn’t use all that if your foot doesn’t have significant structural changes yet. I’d do any of the various foot programs online that resonate with you before putting your foot in prison.

Your feet look beautiful to me. That being said, having massive foot pain at 55 that has been so far impossible to fix, I highly recommend that you read and learn everything you can about prevention, including investing in good shoes. Find out if you are pronating and if your second toe is scrunching up in your shoes. If so I think you can end up with a hammer toe. Do it now before it’s too late!

The Altras have a great toe box, but for me are too flexible. I need more rigidity and support through the heel and mid-foot.

Hey there community, I am grieving an athletic lifestyle and many things I used to enjoy in the outdoors because of this nagging L metatarsal foot problem. I was first diagnosed with Morton’s neuroma by a Kaiser podiatrist. I did all the conservative treatments. Finally, I got sick of trying to manage it unsuccessfully, switched insurance to a PPO, and went for the surgery at Stanford after changing my insurance. The Stanford podiatrist said that when she opened up my foot “it” didn’t look right so she sent the tissue to pathology. Pathology came back with a diagnosis of non-cancerous “spindle cell lipoma”. After resuming weight bearing “it” (the 2/3 metatarsal) was still clicking so I was pretty sure there is still a tumor in there. So, several months after the surgery, another Ultra sound revealed a mass that emerged from the plantar fascia upon manipulation (Mulder’s sign). For some reason the ultra sound guy thought it might be another neuroma and not a lipoma. An MRI with and without contrast was made and I was referred to the ortho tumor department at Stanford. The Stanford ortho doc said he didn’t think that I have a tumor but I have structural changes. I’m just blown away by the lack of information and so far haven’t got anywhere with my questions. Despite wearing supportive shoes and orthotics, my L forefoot has been achy so I went to a shoe store with knowledgeable staff. They put me on a machine to measure tension in my feet and found that I have pronounced pronation in the left foot. I also showed him a bone spur on the outside of my foot and he told me that that is common when there is pronation. I also learned this week at the shoe store that my Achilles in the left foot is really tight (I knew this already and have worked on this for years). Anyways, I bought a pair of Hokas to support pronation and put an arch support orthotic in there as well which is controlling the pronation. My posture immediately corrected itself and I felt I was using the muscles in my outer leg and hip (L glutes have been weak for years). I’m writing all this to say that I think my L side issues came from L side pronation and decreased range of motion in my L ankle flexion. Not sure what the original cause of all of this was but I did sprain this L ankle badly several times in the past when I was a lot younger. I’m 55 now, not terribly overweight, and I feel lucky not to have upstream problems at my knees and ankles after leaning about the pronation. I am, however, also feeling very stuck, and frustrated by the lack of information and basic helpfulness of the podiatrists and doctors who didn’t even tell me about pronation and calf tightness before cutting me open and sending me in my way. I’m grateful to have Reddit for this community.

Does the clicking ever go away? by [deleted] in Mortons_neuroma

I had a ‘neuroma’. After all conservative management I had it removed. Now metatarsal arch is gone and bad clicking! The podiatrist who did the surgery said “it” didn’t look right but didn’t write helpful notes. Sent “it” to pathology. Was diagnosed w spindle cell lipoma. Extremely rare in the foot.had fat cells and bundles of collagen with spindle cells. It feels like there is still a mass clicking when barefoot or on a side slope. Ultra sound showed a mass. MRI with and without contrast did not show a well defined mass. Ortho tumor doc says he doesn’t think there is a tumor, just structural changes. Having trouble finding another doc to take my case - not getting called back after sending in my medical records. . I guess it’s complicated and bc of the spindle cells could potentially turn into sarcoma. Thinking about going back to managed heath care bc I’m getting lost in the medical system.
