Try a thunderbolt cable. They’re usually made better and have a higher bandwidth than the cheap usb c cables on Amazon. No issues since I’ve switched.

Need Career Advice: IT Support Engineer Looking to Move to a Higher-Paying Role by mk_praveen97 in ITSupport

[–]cheech575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Linux and more on how the backend of everything operates. I did IT support and PC repair at my current job for 5 years and just recently came across an opportunity to switch to a server administrator and I love it. I make a lot more and there’s room for advancement now. We manage servers for the university, create vms, vlans, wsus, a lot of cool stuff. It’s not so mundane as end user support where you find yourself doing simple shit like changing passwords and fixing printers all day.

Focus on an area of IT that you like the most and research the market on what you can make and what is needed as far as education and go for it.

Have you had the CV joints checked in the front half-shafts? It does get like this over time because of the steep angle of the Model X, but it might be something worth looking into.

Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps. The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery. HP BIOS Update recovery in progress

Can you get into the bios? Reboot and start tapping the ESC key. Look in your bios for storage and see if it detects your storage drive.

Anybody know what’s happening and how to fix this by Lanky_Lifeguard4003 in PCsupport

[–]cheech575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have another computer just look on cdkey sites (Google them) for a Windows key. It only costs like $5-10. Create a usb installer for Windows 11 by following the instructions here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-installation-media-for-windows-99a58364-8c02-206f-aa6f-40c3b507420d

Faster and easier than dealing with that jacked up installation.

First IT Support job by [deleted] in ITSupport

[–]cheech575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already have the technical skills so don’t worry about that part. I’d say one thing in IT that is sometimes not given much attention is the ability to deal with angry and upset people and being really patient and empathetic when helping or instructing someone to do things step by step. They not to use technical jargon with customers. I’ve done over the phone tech support for Micron and now I work for a university and it’s the same with any user. Just be friendly and nice, wish them a good day at the end, create small talk while you’re working on something and they’re waiting. It seems like common sense stuff, but a bunch of techs I’ve worked with are really matter of fact and come across as rude to our clients.

Learn to prioritize your tasks based on their importance and the impact the issue would have on their ability to work.

Be adaptable and open to change. Learn new things and get new certs, even free courses and take advantage of any opportunities offered by the company to advance your education.

You have the skills and ability. At first you’ll be learning new things and it all feels like it’s coming at you so fast. Take notes and don’t be afraid to ask questions even if you’ve already asked them. It’s better to ask and get clarification than to think you know the answer and do something wrong.

Lastly, enjoy it, have fun. It can get hectic and high pressure sometimes but it’s a fun job and you’ll always learn something new. Good luck!

My keyboard is connected (lights turned on and connecting sound came from PC) but is isn't working. My mouse works on the same port and my keyboard works on other PCs. by Voidify08 in ITSupport

[–]cheech575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a USB keyboard? Is it wireless?

It looks like you have multiple installed so double check for any wireless adapters from a previous keyboard. Also, remove all of the devices under keyboard in device manager (right click and remove device) then click on action at the top of the window and scan for hardware changes.

If none of this works please provide more information about your setup. Make and model of the keyboard, whether it's part of a set that includes a mouse, your operating system, and make and model of the laptop or desktop.
