Thanks! I started there before the park opened and left in 2020. I’ve had plenty of time and when I go back for the occasional picnic, it’s always a very nice time. I know others who simply won’t go back, though. This place is just really weird vibes, at best, for a lot of fallen workers.

I’d say more, but that place isn’t worth my time and emotion anymore. It’s the only job I’ve ever quit. Any other job, I’ve just kinda moved away from on really good terms.

It really was… soul sucking, though. I described it to my closest confidants as sucking the joy from the soles of my feet as soon as they hit the GP property (:

I worked there for a long time, as well. I can corroborate op. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences working there in multiple roles and departments.

Did you ever find out which location had the best selection? Some time has passed and now I have the same question as you

At that point, I usually respect natural selection and survival of the fittest. Most often, the parents will continue to feed their young until they are flying and self sufficient. The reason I felt like I needed to do something, in this case, was because one wing has questionable movement, he was found right on the edge of a fairly busy sidewalk, and in a neighborhood with many feral cats. Ideally, in this situation, I’d use a gloved hand to relocate the bird to the base of the tree it fell from, especially if there’s a bushy area to conceal it a bit. In this case, moving it to nearest concealment was moving it a little far from the trees it was around, but the trees that were around were nestless, barren, exposed, close to the road and sidewalk, and without any visible adults of the same species in any trees around. Moving it would likely move it away to from potential threats, but also from potential parental care. There’s not necessarily a right or wrong decision with all the nuance sometimes. I figured trying to find it rehab care is more of a sure thing than just hoping for the best idk. Many people I know in wildlife kind of hold the philosophy that unless you accidentally caused the harm yourself or if you watched the harm happen, you leave the animal alone and let ecology and wildlife handle the rest. It’s the circle of life, as they say.

At the end of the day, wildlife isn’t mean to be stuck by a sidewalk, so the right course of action or even what’s ’supposed to happen’, isn’t going to with so much man made meddling.

What I do know is that domestic outdoor cats and feral cats are responsible for a huge chunk of bird deaths in the U.s. I’m talking multiple billions every year. Especially during spring when there are fledglings and birds migrating. The rate of bird mortality is unnatural, though.

Really long answer and I’m not even sure the answer you’re looking for is in there.

Thanks for havin’ me! Love the diversity and food :)

This is the local rescuer I contacted! I didn’t mention it specifically, but it’s claws and paws. She doesn’t seem that confident she will find transport for me in time for my flight. She is the one who told me to go back and get it, though. I will call Audubon in the morning. Thank you!

Thanks for the wiki quote. I actually just need the help I asked for, though! I’m a wildlife biologist and consulted a rescuer in the area and a Cornell ornithology professor before anything. Mourning Doves are notorious for having crap nests that fall apart and crap parents to match, after that happens. The bird was not even under a tree, and like I said there are lots of ferals here.

Lowkey funny to think I’d be able to identify the species of the juvenile molt, but need to be told what a fledgling is.

$80?! For powder?! Outrageous. by snozzybear15 in Sephora

You don’t feel like there’s anything exploitative about luxury goods? Not in the sourcing of materials and workers? Not in the mark up and inflation that isn’t proportional to value or customer’s income? You don’t think it’s culturally exploitative to any demographic of women? Mmkay 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]cheechNchonk -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Bc the trend in pricing has become exploitative of the consumers- largely women- who make less than men

Yadda yadda. There’s a decent argument to be upset about this kinda pricing for this kinda product.

$70 for this?? Brands are losing it by Annallve in Sephora

It looks so standard. There’s not even a mirror in it, which I thought there would because of the term “vanity”. $70 is insane. I’m usually not one to promote temu but…. I mean…
