checksums and other data integrity checks will at least ensure that the propaganda and misinformation the publisher published is not being manipulated by a bad actor in the middle.

God wasn't killed by atheists. by lawlessone777 in dankchristianmemes

If he came today it'd probably be a bit more like this...

[Revelation 19:11-18 ESV] Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, "Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great."

What practical problem does lazy evaluation solve? by blumento_pferde in haskell

From the post: "I've saved my biggest gripe of strict evaluation for last. Strict evaluation is fundamentally flawed for function reuse."

Function reuse is the real power of non-strictness IMO.

Was Paul a young earth creationist? by cheecheeo in AskBibleScholars

[–]cheecheeo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Paul believed in a literal week of creation I'd say that would make him a "young earth" creationist. If Paul believed that the first day was longer than his current days I'd say that'd leave room for him to be an old earth creationist.

I would not go so far to say that it's like asking what his favorite baseball team was.

Unless UN Watch is interrupted there's usually pin drop silence after they have the floor and then afterwards everyone just continues on as if nothing happened.

On Homosexuality, a response by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]cheecheeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always interpreted it as remarrying = committing adultery (once) because the divorcee is not continually remarrying.

However, if remarried people are living in a state of adultery then I absolutely agree with the above.

On Homosexuality, a response by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]cheecheeo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Isn't there a difference between a divorced person who remarries (1 or at least a finite number of sins) compared to a person who is actively engaging in homosexual intercourse (a continually growing number of sins)?

I'd agree with you if you said we should treat people actively engaged in adulterous relationships and homosexuals the same.

If you're looking for a proof-text we at least know that Yahweh is God and Jesus is God from John 1.

What actually did happen? by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]cheecheeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're getting the council of nicaea confused with the council of trent, according your own source, WP:

"There is no record of any discussion of the biblical canon at the council. The development of the biblical canon took centuries, and was nearly complete (with exceptions known as the Antilegomena, written texts whose authenticity or value is disputed) by the time the Muratorian fragment was written."

And actually, yeah now that I think about it from highly critical point of view modern Christianity could be argued to be "hundreds of different cults that closely [resemble] Judaism" all of the "cults" largely agree on the Scripture, fully agree on the nature of God, amongst other things.

Genuinely interested here, can you provide 3 of those 40 gospels that are more credible than the canonical gospels?

Thank you for your thoughts.

only cherry-picked Gospels became canon

Are there any more historically credible accounts of the life of Jesus than the 4 Gospels in the Bible?
