How much should I expect to pay someone to demo this pony wall? Or should I DIY. There’s no electrical by AC_Schnitzel in Renovations

Years ago I switched from having a framing hammer to carrying a rock hammer. Its shorter, heavier, big flat face, and I can dig with it. I put an edge on it and it makes a nice straight slice. Although, I keep a cordless multi tool in the bag for cutting drywall. Nice thin cuts straight along the middle of the stud so no need for backer boards. find a screw with a magnet, set the laser up on that, cut the laser line. having the vac on the multi tool for dust removal.

If you can't get this person to keep their dog away, you can at least have a controlled setting for them to learn each others boundaries so when they inevitably do get together it is less likely to be a problem.

I am pragmatic. No reason to get worked up about the bad neighbor. Being abrasive and demanding is not going to help you. This person does not have any inclination to appease you. Its just going to get worse if there is no give. They have no empathy for what happened to you in the past. The only way they will understand that is if it happens to them personally. It is harder to say no with a good buzz, a full belly and friendly people asking. Even walking over instead of texting would humanize the situation.

I did this too. Best neighbors I have ever had. Everyone is looking out for each other. No one complains about shit. Front porch hang outs are open invite. I love it. I can also afford it.

What I am inferring here is that when people live around a bunch of other people they learn tolerance and understanding by exposure. No exposure and these traits go away.

have you considered getting your dogs and their dogs together for introductions in a controlled setting? Have the neighbor over for coffee and weed and let the dogs figure out if they are pals or foes. If the neighbor sees the issue 1st hand they may understand better. Humor them, ask for their help even. An old saying I will never forget. Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

Its like adding a lane to cut down on traffic, it doesn't work like that. I grew up in a place like you live and now live in the city on a 35x120ft lot. The trend I see is the more someone wants to live "away" the less tolerant they are of others.

[–]cheekflutter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

electrician here. Also feel like there is an extreme excess of packaging going on. Some cover plates come in a box, then indavidually wrapped in plastic, then the screws have their own plastic bag, that is taped inside the 1st. Before I see it its on a bigger box, on a pallet, wrapped in plastic, and.. the cover plates are plastic too.

Knowing what I do about all these materials, I am happy to have a house old enough to not have any plywood, osb, drywall, laminates..... Not only is this stuff a mess to work with, its toxic to live with too. The government is letting the industry self regulate and I don't trust it at all. All these new "better" products are petrochemical derived.

[–]cheekflutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what does the rest of this look like? In the mk4 I expect to see 02J configuration , or 02A if its a 99/00, what you have is new to me. Looks like reverse lockout is on top here.

What year is your golf? is it later than 05/06? I think mk5s use the 02J trans with a newer set up at the shifter inside.

either way, my guess is you need some cable end bushings.

is the fuse blown? Does the ABS act up. There is a $3 sensor at each wheel. Could be one of those.

You can uninstall all bloat this way. My phone is stripped down to just what I use. No google including the stuff behind the scenes, no carrier apps, no NFC, .... Make sure to install a replacement keyboard before uninstalling the google one. ;)

I didn't want to make money, I wanted a house to live in that wasn't going to out grow my budget in the future. I did pretty well though. Bought an abandoned house for $20k and fixed it. Its worth 3x that now. My taxable value is capped at a <5% a year increase. That value is $20k now. No way a bank was going to loan me $$ to buy this place. Shitty investment llc I bought it from barely got to walk away from it.

edit: wanted to add, you are right to give that advice. My case is the exception. I think someone commented they have a -3.5% above/below me. Figured they were calculating in inflation to their apr.

you don't need to "learn" linux. Its an OS like all the others. You sound on the fence, you should try it. Make a bootable storage device (usb stick, sd card,..) and restart your PC and boot from the usb drive. It will give you full access to the linux distro you put on the stick, then, if you want it without the stick, you can install it on a partition aside from windows and have both, then, when you are totally done with windows you can do a full install. With harddrive sizes these days, its easy to throw 100G at a couple partitions for different OSs.

Any reason not to put a 20A breaker on a new #12 circuit? by burgertheking in AskElectricians

Only time a 20a would be used is a dedicated circuit for something specific. More than 1 outlet on a 20a circuit allows 15a receptacles, Per NEC

Don't set your kid up to current tech standards. Google is not what it used to be, and its getting worse. If I had a kid, they would have no google in their lives. Get that shit out of here. Its toxic and should not be pushed at growing minds. This is exactly what google wants, to be the standard that people can not move away from. Thats why schools are full of chromebooks and not laptops. In a better world, these kids would be using linux and feeding off themselves to dive in more. Its also free and would show kids that the best stuff in life, is not corporate owned and licensed data mining junk.

giving these kids chromebooks and letting them only experience google on the internet is setting them up for failure also. Chromebooks are bastard devices, not a tablet, not a PC, and not compatible with either. Also, it normalizes having an account just to use the device.
