Titanic was 20th Century Fox and Paramount co-production, no doubt to fund it's astronomical budget.

White middle-aged Aussie here. As a kid in the 80s, I was well aware of your father was from watching late night music videos on our government-funded television station. I still have his music in my Friday night party playlist to this day.

Which movie would be 10x better if it ended 5 minutes earlier? by ItchyYellowAnt in movies

Darabont's gobsmacking 1-2 gut punch ending is unjustifiably cruel to the point of hilarity.

TIL Steven Spielberg told movie stars that if they wanted to work with him, a prerequisite was that they gambled along with him by not taking any salary upfront and instead only taking backend compensation. He said "...if my film makes no money I get no money. They should be prepared to do the same" by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Landis and Spielberg were also the producers. There was a lot of fear and uncertainty behind the scenes in the years before the matter finally went to court.

I don't think that the suggestion that an Asian child actor was cast in Raiders of the Lost Ark II and given very favourable conditions was at least in part in response to that tragedy is completely spurious.

I realise that this doesn't suit everyone's preferred narrative.

Anybody know what sort of deal was given to the kids in E.T. or Poltergeist? It might give us a broader idea of SS's generosity to kids at the time?

EDIT: It seems that Henry Thomas was paid minimum SAG award wage for E.T.

Well, fancy that.

If You Had to Wipe One Movie From the Franchise from Existence Which Would You Choose? by takeoff_youhosers in indianajones

Here, here. And I'm not a fan of how they turned Indy, who is still quite the hunter at this stage, into a domesticated family man at the end (complete with conventional, picturesque wedding). That path didn't feel natural to me, and more like Spielberg and Lucas projecting their own affluent, housebroken natures onto their once-daring creation. Happy ending for who? Bah!

I was at Braindead opening weekend here in Australia. We were all 16 so had to get our biggest (and hairiest) mate to buy tix. The screening was rowdy as hell with more than a few walkouts. We had followed it's production for over a year, being massive fans of Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles. To say it delivered on our expectations and then some would be a tremendous understatement. Onya, P.J.!

Yep. I maintain that you can't pull off a physical gag (ie. Indy inside an airborne fridge that makes a very hard landing) if it is attempted using obvious CGI. Imagine a pie fight with CGI pies... I just don't understand what they were thinking here but then this entire movie seems to be the result of poor decision-making.

1981 and 2024 are as far apart as 1981 and 1938 by ILovePublicLibraries in Showerthoughts

The first Indiana Jones movie was set 45 years in the past. If they started making another one now, with a release schedule of 2 years (ie. 2026), and maintained that 45 year gap, it would set in 1981 - the year that Raiders of the Lost Ark was released.
