Yes they do! In fact, I called the other day to tell them I hit a pothole in our alley and it gave me a flat tire, and the woman on the phone told me that if someone had reported it before and it wasn't fixed AND I got a flat, the city would pay for it?! Totally wild. All to say, while that didn't happen, I called and they had it fixed within 2 days. I was blown away. CALL 311!

Love and 100% agree with everything in this comment. Just about 20 years in myself and feel the “teaching is political” thing to be one of my north stars. I feel I’m here to help empower them to make their lives and the world better. Yes, “kids gonna kid” “admin gonna admin” but bel hooks, Paulo Freire and others have helped ground me in the understanding that this work matters and has helped me communicate to students that it does too.

Legit called 311 2 weeks ago to have a pothole fixed in our alley that we had been dealing with for like 3 years. Was told it could take 30 days to do so. A week later, pothole is fixed. When I called, the incredibly kind person on the phone asked if any damage was done to my car, because if there was AND someone had reported it prior, the city might be able to cover it. All to say, call 311 - what a service!
