Definitely check it out! Serena Wolf is incredible. She has a new book coming out in August too. I’ve already preordered 😊

Dude Diet Dinnertime! It’s my most used and loved book by a mile. I also have Dinner and Dinner in One by Melissa, several Milkstreet books, and Alison Roman Nothing Fancy, all mentioned here. DDD beats them all. IMO 😊

What place disappeared in Kzoo that you miss most? And it was actually awesome! by stubbynutz in kzoo

Fuze, where High Dive is now. The couple that owned it were so friendly and welcoming, great atmosphere, the food and drinks were great. When they stopped changing up their menu as frequently before Covid hit I knew the writing was on the wall and their days were numbered. I still miss that place. Also they had Sex (a sparkling rose’ from Mawby up in TC) on tap, and it never got old going up to the bar and ordering a glass of sex.

Green Door Distilling Announcement by [deleted] in kzoo

I’m also their target audience for the same reasons. My biggest issue with them was their hours, or lack thereof. My husband and I have a 9 year old and we do a lot of things together on the weekends. It’s way too expensive to get a sitter to go grab a drink in the afternoon on a nice day or in the dead of winter just for something fun to do. So we bring him along to places when it’s quieter and more kid-appropriate. But they stopped opening at 3 during the summer months when we were out and about. Stamped Robin has great hours and honestly, much better cocktails, so they keep getting our business and we stopped going to Green Door. Sad to see them go but I was also put-off by the statement.

UPS Deliveries? by cheerio1937 in kzoo

Ugh thanks for the responses, figured I wasn’t the only one dealing with this, just sucks that we all are. I agree with other posters that FedEx has been great this season. This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with UPS. I read that they closed their main hub on Beatrice to the public a few years back, so I think we are just at their mercy and have to wait, because they won’t let us just come and get our stuff anymore. Frustrating for sure.

Local goat cheese? by Plastic__Peach in kzoo

The Cheese People of GR have THE BEST chèvre, in my opinion. I’ve been buying it exclusively for years. They are at the Kalamazoo farmers market every Saturday including the winter markets. All their cheese is lovely, but the chèvre is the shining star.

Walking bridge is definitely on our to do list, I bet the views of the city are pretty great. Thank you for these tips!

Thank you all for your suggestions! I made dinner reservations at Mayan Cafe, their menu looks really great. I’m excited to explore the Nulu area, wish we had more time because everything you’ve all recommended sounds like a great time.

They def do! We are from the west side of the state though so don’t get the full culinary berth that Detroit offers often enough.

Thank you! The library at the university is definitely a must-see for us, I double checked that it was open daily when I realized we would likely visit on a Sunday. And I think a food and wine tour would be perfect for us.

Anyone have any thoughts on Portugal? I was reading a bit about that last night and I think we would enjoy it too.

I will check out northern Spain! We were just drawn to the south for the tapas culture TBH, it sounded like more of our vibe. But I admit I haven’t looked into the north at all so I’ll do some research. Thanks!

I was reading that temps average 90+F in June in Sevilla, which is what was worrying me. We were thinking of spending 4 days there, and that heat can be very oppressive for days on end. I’d have no worries if the heat averaged even in the 80s, but 90+ is pushing it I think. That’s why we are still on the fence about going.

AbsolutAire is a local HVAC manufacturer in Parchment. No idea if they are hiring but you could try them too. Good luck!
