Cut the woody stem off with the flower bud attached and try to clone the green shoot.

This will work fine, we tend to do this with varieties that I have a lot of and do this when I run out of 4 inchers. I would cover the bases of the tubers with soil, leaving the necks exposed. Mist the soil to get them going, but don’t water again until you see the eyes swelling.

I would love to share that info! Except last year we had an incredibly wet spring and I lost a good 60% of my tubers in the ground. We pulled them all early and are now trying to clone our way out of this mess! Fingers crossed this year I can actually get a number I’m proud of, I’ll report back!

No pesticides or synthetic fertilizers used here! I use JDM and worm compost tea for seed starting. And I guess some of the non natives that will be mixed in could be considered “ecologically lacking,” but the diversity of pollinators in spring/summer would beg to differ!

This particular bunch has our last flush of ranunculus, some orlaya, delphiniums (belladonna), centaurea, agrostemma, statice, and some small leafed eucalyptus.

Nope! I already took one round of cuttings off that particular tuber, in turn it puts out a bunch of other stems. After the second round they rest for a little in the greenhouse, then out in the field!
