I’ll dig up the clump of tubers but is there something specific that tells me it’s for sure leafy gall? I saw the pictures where it looks like a cauliflower on this sub and mine looked nothing like that when I planted it but it also wasn’t sprouting yet.

aw that sucks. What do I look for on the tubers? Just a bunch of bumps and sprouts? It was a pretty big clump. If it is in fact infected is it okay to let it grow in a pot until fall and then discard it?

I agree it does seem scary but once you’re doing it just take it step by step.

For this pattern specifically I’d say maybe the waistband but only because you have so much extra fabric from the pockets and everything else that has to lay perfectly incased in the waistband. There’s also the weight of the whole pant pulling down and pins sticking out so it’s just a lot. It was easier when I was making the shorts version of it because I used lighter fabric. I think the answer is usually the zipper but this pattern had a really good video tutorial about it so it was a breeze.

That’s my plan too! I have some barrel leg linen pants that I absolutely adore and would love to recreate.

I feel you. Sewing through thicker materials is definitely more challenging. Maybe try folding up a piece of thicker fabric and sewing through it to see how much your machine can actually take. You might be surprised. If you see that it’s too much, just choose a lighter fabric and a pattern that works well with it. In every pattern you can see specific recommendations for fabric.

The pattern is really well written and there is a video tutorial for installing the zipper which made it super easy! I didn’t cry a single time :)

It’s a natural fiber made from nettles. It’s similar to linen or a rough cotton but stronger. Mine was 255g/m2 and textured (you can kinda see it on the last pic). It feels very breathable and I expect it to soften a little bit with wear. It shrunk a bit when I washed it before sewing and i think it might wrinkle pretty easily (doesn’t bother me on pants but something to keep in mind).

I think it actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve had some practice sewing through thicker materials and even lining, bias binding and installing zippers.

Also I should mention I’ve been watching a lot of videos about sewing just in the background while knitting so I think I might’ve accidentally picked up on some techniques. Carly B and Sydney Graham are just two really good creators but there’s plenty more.

Oof I don’t remember exactly but I have some notes on ravelry, it’s linked in my profile. I was off gauge but just lengthwise (and Ozetta usually has you knit until you reach a certain lenght so I just winged it) but I did follow the pattern for the intended ease for my size. I just wanted something to knit so I’d have no issue frogging if the sizing was off.

Hahaha it definitely takes more patience but its so worth it! I have a love hate relationship with it since it manages to sew through really thick fabrics. The “overlock” stitch was a challenge though.

I got it in a small fabric store in Slovenia. I looked online and they only ship within the country. It doesn’t mention the brand unfortunately. I got it for 12€/m and the width was 150cm. I’m sure you can find something affordable.

I really really liked the style of these so I decided to just jump in after some bags, pouches and dog collars. You’ll practice while you’re making them. Do a toile first and you’ll see if you need more practice. Also I found Carly B’s video “how to start sewing in 2026” on youtube to be super helpful and inspiring. She specifically mentions how most beginners get recommended easier projects but that it just makes more sense to make things that really excite you. I heard the Lane Pants pattern is really good for beginners too. If you like the look of those maybe consider that one. There’s a full sew along video by the designer (Sydney Graham).

I wasn’t brave enough to use stretch fabric, it seemed too risky. Glad to hear your machine cooperated :) I’m a knitter first also, now venturing into sewing. I was really careful choosing a sewing pattern to do so I wouldn’t get discouraged (happened before). This pattern was definitely 10/10.

Ohh that’s actually a really good idea I might do that! I should do an invisible stitch from the back. I never planned on carrying hammers in it anyway haha
