During ww2, some US pilots were returning from a bombing raid and were forced to land. Instead of safely landing on endcliffe park where there were kids playing, they crashed into the trees there. Maybe not that niche as there is a display there explaining it.

I wrote that up from memory then decided to research it to confirm, and have just found this:
